במענה על מכתבו מפסח שני, בו כותב אשר נכנס לישיבת תורת אמת.
הנה יה"ר שיהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת, וילמוד בהתמדה ושקידה אמיתיות הן בתורת הנגלה והן בתורת החסידות, וישפיע גם על חבריו בכגון דא, ובודאי למותר להאריך, אשר, לסייעתא דשמיא בזה זוכים ע"י שישפיע בהסביבה לקרבם לתורה ולמצות בכלל, ולחסידות הדרכותי' והנהגותי' בפרט, כי מדתו של הקב"ה היא מדה כנגד מדה (אלא שכמה פעמים ככה).
שני המכ' הקודמים נתקבלו בעתם. ובשאלתו, שמנהג ביהכנ"ס בו הוא בעל קורא, שמתעטף הב"ק בטלית בעת הקריאה (ודלא כמנהגינו) ותובעים שגם הוא יתעטף כנ"ל - ימלא דרישתם, כי א) בכגון דא על היחיד לנהוג כהרבים. ב) בעטיפת טלית יש גם ענין של כבוד הצבור (מג"א סי"ח סק"ב), וכיון שהציבור או רובו מקפיד ע"ז, אין לזלזל בכבודם (ע"י אי העטיפה).

In response to your letter from Pesach Sheni, in which you write that you have entered the Yeshivah Toras Emes. May it be G‑d's will that this should be at a good and successful time, and that you study with true diligence and perseverance both in the revealed Torah and in Chassidus. You should also influence your friends in these matters, and certainly there is no need to elaborate that one merits Heavenly assistance in this by influencing those around him to draw them closer to Torah and mitzvos in general, and to Chassidus—its guidance and conduct—in particular. For the measure of the Holy One is measure for measure (except that it is often many times over).
Your two previous letters were received on time.
Regarding your question: The custom of the synagogue where you are the baal koreh is that the baal koreh wears a tallis during the reading (unlike our custom), and they demand that you also wear a tallis as above—you should fulfill their request, because: (a) In such matters an individual should follow the majority; (b) Wearing a tallis also has an aspect of honoring the congregation (see Magen Avraham Orach Chaim 18:2), and since the congregation or most of it is particular about this, one should not belittle their honor (by not wearing it).

Summary
By helping your friends grow in Torah and mitzvos, you merit Hashem's help for yourself. The Rebbe also teaches to respect communal customs even if they differ from one's own practice.
