Nusach Ari as the Universal Prayer Nusach

The Rebbe writes that Nusach Ari is suitable for everyone, citing sources that permit changing from Nusach Ashkenaz to Sefard but not the reverse. He references halachic authorities and clarifies how to explain this to congregants.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

Regarding what you wrote about the prayer nusach and in which terms to explain this to those praying: see the introduction to Shaar HaKolel, where he quotes from our holy Nesi'im that Nusach Ari is a nusach suitable for every soul. In Shu"t Maharshal, Orach Chaim section, it is ruled that one may change from Nusach Ashkenaz to Sefard; likewise in Shu"t Divrei Chaim, part II, Orach Chaim section 8. As for the objections raised in Chasam Sofer Orach Chaim and Shu"t Maharam Shik Orach Chaim, see Shu"t Beis HaYotzer Orach Chaim and Yoreh Deah sections and Shu"t Minchas Elazar part I section 11, where all the questions are answered. Their conclusion is that it is permitted to change from Nusach Ashkenaz to Sefard, but there is no opinion permitting changing from Sefard back to Ashkenaz.

With blessing.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that Nusach Ari is universally fitting and halachically supported as a prayer nusach for all. He provides sources for permitting a switch from Ashkenaz to Sefard but not vice versa, guiding how this should be explained to congregants.
