...ומ"ש שצר לו במאד לראות הסבל של בנו שי' הנה אף שקשה בעיני לצערו, אבל מוכרחני לאמר את הנראה לי לאמיתתו, והוא ע"פ מה שכתוב בזה"ק והעתיקו כ"ק הצמח צדק באיזהו מקומן, אשר גידול שערות הזקן הם סגולה מיוחדת לפרנסה בחסדו של הקב"ה, ולהסרת ההעלמות וההסתרים בזה, והלואי שלא היו מעיקים על בנם שי' אותם שהעיקו בהנוגע לגידול זקנו, שנוסף על מנוחת נפשו שהיתה חזקה ביותר הנה כבר הי' מסודר בפרנסתו, ובפרט שאינו דומה הזמן שלא הי' מגדל זקנו והסרת זקנו לאחר התקופה שגדלו, וגדלו מתוך שמחה ובלי כל כפי', ולדאבון גם בזה נתקיים עכ"פ לרגע קצר מאמר הכתוב ידי נשים רחמניות בשלו וגו', ויה"ר מאל הרחמן מקור הרחמים והחסדים שיאמר די להקישויים שנגרמו ע"י הנ"ל, ומכאן ואילך תלך הסתדרות בנם שי' גם בגשמיות מטוב לעוד טוב יותר וכפתגם אדמו"ר הידוע פון גוט צו נאך בעסער...

...Regarding what you wrote about your deep pain seeing your son's suffering, although it pains me to add to your distress, I must say what appears to me to be the truth. This is based on what is written in the Zohar and quoted by the tzt"z in several places: growing a beard is a unique segulah for livelihood through the kindness of the Holy One Blessed be He, and for removing concealments and obstacles in this area. If only those who pressured your son regarding his beard had not done so! In addition to his very strong peace of mind, he was already settled in his livelihood. Especially since there is no comparison between the time when he did not grow his beard or removed it, and after the period when he grew it out with joy and without any coercion. Unfortunately, even here the verse was fulfilled—if only for a short moment—'Yedei Nashim Rachmaniyot Bishlu...' (The hands of compassionate women have cooked...), and may it be G‑d's will from the Merciful One, Source of mercy and kindness, that He say 'enough' to the difficulties caused by this matter. From now on may your son's situation improve materially from good to even better—as the well-known saying of the Rebbeim goes: 'from good to even better...'
