... נתעכב שילוח מכ' זה. ובינתים נתקבל מכתב זה מהר"ד שי' וכותב א) שההשקה היא כמו ח, ויעץ לעשות חור ההולך ישר ולא בדרך מלמעלמ"ט. ומסכים הנני לדעתו. ב) שהתיר והורה להם לעשות שטאפער מגומי. ואין דעתי כן, ע"פ הוראת כ"ק אדמו"ר מהרש"ב נ"ע - נדפסה בסו"ס טהרת מים ובס' של הנ"ל טהרת יו"ט ח"ו בהקדמה - וצריך לעשותה מעץ.

The sending of this letter was delayed. In the meantime, I received this letter from Reb D. He writes: a) that the connection (hashakah) is as it should be, and he advised to make a hole that goes straight through and not in an indirect way from above to below. I agree with his opinion. b) That he permitted and instructed them to make a stopper out of rubber. My opinion is not so, based on the directive of the Rebbe Maharash—printed at the end of Taharas Mayim and in his sefer Taharas Yom Tov vol. 6 introduction—and it should be made out of wood.

The Rebbe writes that when constructing a mikvah, the connecting hole must be direct (straight), and a rubber stopper should not be used; rather, it must be made from wood according to chassidic tradition.
