Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased with what you wrote about the monthly gathering taking place in your area, in which there has been an increase in the study of Chassidus. Surely you are also studying the laws necessary for day-to-day life, whether in a group or individually, as long as everyone becomes proficient in them, as experience shows.
It is proper to first learn the actual laws needed for practice without their sources, and only on the second or third time to add the sources as well. For the main thing is: "Es HaElokim yera v'es mitzvosav shmor ki zeh kol ha'adam" (Fear G‑d and keep His commandments, for this is the whole person).
With blessing.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that one should prioritize learning practical halachah for daily living before delving into sources. Mastery of essential laws comes first; deeper study can follow once proficiency is achieved.
