Greetings and blessing!

In reply to your letter, in which you write that you had the merit of knowing the Rebbe, the father of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, in Rostov, etc., and also had the merit of being at the Purim meal in the year 5680. Surely this memory affects you in matters of thought, speech and deed; for the appearance of the faces of tzaddikim, and how much more so when one also remembers the words of their teachings, goes down and pierces to the innermost part of the heart, the essential point of the soul.

I come herewith to urge you to influence your surroundings in this too, that is, to bring them closer to Judaism, and most essential of all, to the keeping of practical mitzvos in daily life. The saying of the Rebbe [Rashab] is known, which we heard several times from his son, my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, that it is an established rule that outreach does not return empty. I hope for good news from you regarding actual practice in all the above.

Likewise, surely you will let me know of your family situation and how you came to your present place of residence.
