מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ"א וכ"ב אלול עם המצורפים אליהם, ולפלא שעכב את כתיבתו ונתעכבו ג"כ המכתבים בהילוכם, ואכפול תודתי על הקמת המצבה[2] וגם על הודעתו עד"ז.
ומה שכותב שהוקמה לאורך הגוף לא לצד הראש, הנה אם ישנם שם מצבות באופן כזה יש להניח כמו שהוא אבל באם לאו הרי אין לשנות מהנהוג בבית חיים זה ואם אי אפשר אחרת יש לעשות מצבה אחרת ולהקימה כמו שאר המצבות, אבל מניח את דעתי שכותב שהרבה מצבות מונחות באופן כזה בצפת...

I acknowledge receipt of your letters from the 21st and 22nd of Elul with their enclosures. It is surprising that you delayed your writing, and as a result, the letters were also delayed in their delivery. I repeat my thanks for erecting the tombstone and for informing me about it.
Regarding what you wrote—that the tombstone was erected along the length of the body and not at the head: if there are other tombstones placed in this manner there, then leave it as is. But if not, then one should not deviate from the custom of this cemetery; and if it is not possible otherwise, another tombstone should be made and erected like the other tombstones. However, you reassure me by writing that many tombstones are placed this way in Tzfat...
