Shalom u'Vrachah!

I received your letter from the 19th of Elul with the enclosed pan.

Regarding what you write—that you cannot bring yourself to feel joy—since the Torah commands this for every individual, it is clear that everyone has the ability, and it depends only on one's will.

As for your statement that there is nothing to be happy about: this matter is explained in many places in Tanya and other writings—contemplation that leads to true joy. When you study them properly, you will certainly find meaning in them for yourself and those connected to you. I have already written to you that weakness in health and sadness also negatively affect the matter about which you write.

May Hashem grant you success in accomplishing all of the above, and as a result your situation will improve—even if not all at once or from one extreme to another.

Blessings for being inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, and for Torah study with awe of Heaven.
