מכתבי הקודם בטח נתקבל בעתו, ומאשר הנני בזה קבלת מכתבו די"ב מנ"א.
כנראה שבין התלמידים התחילה התחרות מי ירבה בכתיבת מכתבים אלי ובמילא כותבים ענינים כאלו שצריכים לדבר עם הר"מ והר"י והמשפיע וכיו"ב, וכדאי הי' שבזמן המתאים יסבירם שלא זו הדרך להתעלות במדריגה ואפילו לא להתקשרות, ואדרבה כשמתברכים בנפשם שכבר עשו המוטל עליהם בהנ"ל כיון שכתבו מכתב ה"ז מחליש את השימת לב לענינים המוכרחים, והתקשרות ועלי' מדרגא לדרגא הוא ע"י ענינים של פועל בעצמו, היינו תוספת בהנוגע למעשה דבור ומחשבה, ובטח ימצא האותיות המתאימות לזה...
בהנוגע להסברא שבמכתבו אודות נסיעת איזה מהתלמידים לארצוה"ב, ידועה חוות דעתי בזה שכתבתי כו"כ פעמים והוא על יסוד מה שרואים בהאברכים שכבר באו מהתם להכא, וכיון שאעפ"כ מרבים בהפצרות - ולפלא שאינו מוצא האותיות המתאימות להסבירם שיש בנטי' זו תערובות של כו' - הנה אלו שאעפ"כ יתעסקו ויעשו ניירות על דעת עצמם יש לסדר שיסעו מתחלה למשך חצי שנה ויותר ללמוד בתו"ת בצרפת אשר שם המשמעת חזקה, ואחרי בחינה זו יוחלט אם ימשיכו בנסיעתם לכאן או לקנדה או שיחזרו לאה"ק ת"ו.

My previous letter was surely received in its proper time, and hereby I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 12th of Menachem Av.
It seems that among the students there has begun a competition as to who can increase in writing letters to me, and as a result they write about matters that should be discussed with the Ram (teacher), the Rosh Yeshivah, the mashpia, and the like. It would be worthwhile at an appropriate time to explain to them that this is not the path to ascend in spiritual level or even for connection (hiskashrus). On the contrary, when they convince themselves that they have already fulfilled their obligations in these matters just by writing a letter, it weakens their attention to essential matters. True connection and ascent from level to level comes through personal action—meaning an increase in deed, speech, and thought. Surely you will find the appropriate words for this…
Regarding the idea mentioned in your letter about some students traveling to America: My opinion on this is well known and I have written it many times. It is based on what we see with the Avrechim who have already come here from there. Since nevertheless there are persistent requests—and it is surprising that you do not find suitable words to explain that this tendency contains a mixture of motives—those who nevertheless engage in making papers on their own initiative should be arranged to first travel for half a year or more to study at Tomchei Temimim in France where discipline is strong. After this trial period it will be decided whether they will continue their journey here or to Canada or return to Eretz HaKodesh.
