במענה על מכתבו מכ"ב תמוז בו כותב שהתקרב קצת ללימוד החסידות ולדרכי החסידות וכו'. הנה כיון שגם הוא מדגיש קצת במילא מובן שמכיר שאין זה מספיק וע"פ מרז"ל יגעת ולא מצאת אל תאמין הנה בו הדבר תלוי להוסיף בהנ"ל כפי יכולתו שזהו כפי שדורשים ממנו והיינו בלימוד כפשוטו ללמוד תורת החסידות נוסף על לימודו בתורת הנגלה במסירה ונתינה ושקידה אמיתית אשר לימוד פנימיות התורה נשמתא דאורייתא מוסיפה חיות בלימוד הנגלה וקיום המצות.
ולהודעתו של הבר מצוה של אחיו... שי' בתשעה באב - יהפך במהרה לששון ולשמחה - בודאי יתחיל אחיו בלימוד ספר התניא קדישא ותהי' זה הכנה והתחלה טובה לעבודת השם בדרך שיקוים בו קרוב אליך הדבר מאד בפיך ובלבבך לעשותו שעל זה מיוסד התניא וכלשון רבנו הזקן בשער הקדש.
בודאי שומר שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע והם בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים ומשתדל שגם ידידיו ישמרום וזכות הרבים תלוי בו.

In response to your letter from the 22nd of Tammuz in which you write that you have somewhat drawn closer to the study of Chasidus and its ways, etc. Since you yourself emphasize "somewhat," it is understood that you recognize this is not sufficient. As our Sages say: "If you labored and did not find, do not believe." Therefore, it depends on you to add in the above according to your ability, as is required of you—meaning literally studying the teachings of Chasidus in addition to your study of Nigleh (the revealed Torah), with true dedication and diligence. The study of the inner dimension of Torah—the soul of Torah—adds vitality to one's learning of Nigleh and fulfillment of mitzvos.
Regarding your notification about your brother's bar mitzvah... may it be on Tisha B'Av—which will soon be transformed into joy and gladness—certainly your brother will begin studying Sefer HaTanya HaKadosh. This will be a good preparation and beginning for serving Hashem in a way that fulfills "Karov eilecha hadavar me'od beficha uvilvavcha la'asoso" ("This matter is very close to you—in your mouth and in your heart—to do it"), upon which Tanya is based, as stated by the Alter Rebbe in Shaar HaKodesh.
Certainly you keep the three daily lessons established by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal—Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya—and strive that your friends keep them as well. The merit of the many depends on you.
