נתקבל מכתבו בקשת ברכה אודות מר... שי' וב"ב שי' ואזכירו להמצטרך לו בהיותי על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע. ומה ששואל אם יעתיקו למדינה אחרת, הנה כבר ידוע פסק אדוננו ומורנו ראש כל בני הגולה הרמב"ם והוא בידו החזקה הל' דיעות ריש פרק ששי, צריך אדם להתחבר לצדיקים ולישב אצל החכמים תמיד כו' ויתרחק מן הרשעים ההולכים בחשך כדי שלא ילמוד ממעשיהם כו' ואם כו' אינו יכול ללכת למדינה שמנהגי' טובים כו' ישב לבדו יחידי כו' יצא למערות ולחוחים ולמדבריות.
ובמילא מובן שבאם יש מקום לומר כפי שכותב במכתבו שע"י העתקה למקום חדש יהיו בסביבה או בהשפעת אנשים כנ"ל הרי מובן שטוב יותר לישב יחידי או לילך למדבר מאשר להעתיק לשם, והשי"ת הזן ומפרנס לכל ימציא להם פרנסתם בכשרות ובמנוחה ויוכלו להוסיף אומץ בלימוד תורתנו הק' ובקיום מצותיו בהידור.

Your letter was received requesting a blessing regarding Mr... and his family. I will mention him for what he needs when I am at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, of blessed memory.
As for your question about moving to another country: It is already known the ruling of our master and teacher, the head of all the exiles, the Rambam, in his Mishneh Torah, Hilchot De'ot, beginning of chapter six: A person must associate with righteous people and always sit among the wise, etc., and distance himself from the wicked who walk in darkness so as not to learn from their deeds, etc. And if he cannot go to a place where the customs are good, etc., he should sit alone by himself, etc., or go out to caves and deserts.
Therefore it is understood that if there is reason to say—as you write in your letter—that by moving to a new place you will be in an environment or under the influence of such people as mentioned above, then it is clear that it is better to remain alone or go into isolation than to move there. And may Hashem, Who nourishes and sustains all, provide for them their livelihood in a kosher way and with tranquility so they can strengthen themselves further in learning our holy Torah and fulfilling its mitzvot with excellence.
