איך בין געווען צופרידען צו באקומען א גרוס פון אייך דורך מר ניסן שי' מינדעל וועלכער האט מיר אויך דערציילט וועגען אייער איינווירקונג אויף א בחור אז ער זאל ווידער אנהויבען לייגען תפילין, נאכדעם ווי ער האט דאס א צייט ניט געטאן, און די גרויסקייט פון דער זאך איז דאך ניט צו משער זיין, און ווי עס ווערט ערקלערט אויך אין אייער תפילין העפט אז דאס גלייכט אויס די קאפ מטיט[2] דער הארץ, און ווי דער לשון פון שולחן ערוך וועלכעס ווערט אויך אראפגעבראכט אין תניא פרק מ"א - זייט 2 - ליבטל וליכלל בחי' חכמתו ובינתו וכו' וכן ליבטל וליכלל בחי' הדעת שבנפשו וכו' לשעבד הלב והמוח וכו'.
און די טעג וואס פאר מתן תורה זיינע ספעציעל הצלחה טעג וואס מען נעמט אויף זיך דעם ענין פון אהבת ישראל צו מקרב זיין זיי תצו[3] תורה ומצות, זאל דאס אראפקומען לפועל און אין א גוטען פרייליכען אופן.

I was pleased to receive regards from you through Mr. Nisan Mindel, who also told me about your influence on a boy so that he should once again begin putting on Teffilin, after he had not done so for some time. The greatness of this matter is truly beyond measure, as is also explained in your Teffilin booklet—that it purifies the mind from mud and the heart. As stated in the language of Shulchan Aruch, which is also brought in Tanya chapter 41 (page 2): 'to nullify and include the aspect of wisdom and understanding... and likewise to nullify and include the aspect of knowledge in his soul... to subjugate the heart and mind,' etc.
And these days before Matan Torah are especially auspicious days for taking upon oneself the matter of Ahavas Yisrael—to bring others closer to Torah and mitzvos. May this be actualized in a good and joyful manner.
With blessings in the wording of my father-in-law, the Rebbe: for receiving the Torah with joy and inwardness. And with best regards to Mrs. Kohen, may she live, and your children and grandchildren, may they live.
