במענה על מכתבו מעש"ק שמיני. הנה במ"ש אודות הזכרון שלו, הנה בענינים כמו אלו אין כדאי להתעקש, היינו להעמיס על הזכרון, אלא אדרבה להקל מעליו, ועוד זאת ללמוד במקום שלבו חפץ שאז גם כח התענוג מסייע לכח הזכרון ובמילא סוכ"ס חוזר הוא לאיתנו. ובפרט שבטח אצלו הוא גם ענין הקשור בניערווען.
ולמותר לעוררו על מה שמבואר בכ"מ על ההכרח הגמור לשמור בריאות הגוף ובמילא לשמוע להוראת הרופא...

In response to your letter from Erev Shabbat Kodesh Shemini: Regarding what you wrote about your memory, in such matters it is not advisable to be stubborn—that is, to overload the memory. On the contrary, one should lighten the load on it. Additionally, study in an area that your heart desires, for then the power of pleasure assists the power of memory and eventually it will return to its strength. Especially since surely in your case this is also connected to nerves.
It is unnecessary to remind you of what is explained in many places about the absolute necessity of maintaining bodily health and therefore listening to the doctor's instructions...
