2331 —אמונה, הלשון אומן את הדסה, וענין החינוך

Faith, the Phrase 'Omen Es Hadassah', and the Concept of Chinuch

אפרים אליעזר הכהן — Ephraim Eliezer HaKohen   ב"ה, ג' טבת, תשי"ד ברוקלין.
The Rebbe addresses a question about the meaning of 'like an omen who trains his hands' in Tanya, discussing whether faith derives from the phrase 'omen es Hadassah' and its connection to chinuch (education), while noting textual nuances.

שלום וברכה!

Shalom u'Vrachah!

...Regarding your comment on what is brought in Tanya, 'like an omen who trains his hands,' etc., that it requires further analysis as to its intent and you wish to explain that faith is from the phrase 'omen es Hadassah' and the concept of chinuch (education), etc. My question is regarding the intent of the word 'etc.' as I wrote in my notes. But even regarding what you mentioned above, further clarification is needed because it is explicitly written earlier there that faith comes from the term 'habit,' etc., so it is not entirely clear what is added by the words 'like an omen,' etc.

With blessing.

Summary

The Rebbe clarifies that while faith may be linked to the phrase 'omen es Hadassah' and education (chinuch), Tanya already explains faith as stemming from habit. The letter encourages careful study of textual nuances when interpreting foundational concepts.
