זה עתה נתקבל מכתבו מד' חיי, בו כותב אשר קבע זמן נתוח השבר ליום ו' הבע"ל.
נוסף על המברק ששלחתי לו, הנני בזה לכפול ברכתי שיהי' הנתוח בשעה טובה ומוצלחת ובקרוב יחזור לאיתנו ולעבודתו בעזר לבני ישראל עזר בגשמיות אשר בודאי הנה סו"ס זה ג"כ עזר ברוחניות. נוסף ע"ז שגם גשמיות בני ישראל שהם ממלכת כהנים וגוי קדוש גם היא קדושה היא לאלקינו, וכידוע פתגם הבעל שם טוב שנשמה יורדת בגוף למשך שבעים שנה ואם בגבורות שמונים שנה כדי לעשות אפילו טובה אחת לישראל בגשמיות או ברוחניות.
נעם לי לקרות במכתבו אשר בעתו השיא את בתו לבחור טוב, ואף שכותב שלא בקל הוא להשפיע עליו בעניני תורה ומצות הנה לפום צערא אגרא ומה איכפת לי' אם הקב"ה רוצה ליתן לו שכר רב וזה אדרבה צריך להוסיף בו אומץ בענין הנ"ל ובמכש"כ מהשתדלות הורים לעזור לב"ב שי' בגשמיות...
ידוע אשר כל הענינים שמקבל האדם הוא בתורת הלוואה מבורא העולם והתשלומין בזה הם ע"י שהאדם מסדר חייו ופעולותיו באופן שגורמים נחת רוח להמלוה, וכיון שהאדם הוא קרוץ מחומר ויסודו מעפר הרי עלול לכשלון ולאיחור בתשלומין אבל הובטח שאין לך דבר שעומד בפני הרצון והתשובה מדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה אשר כשהאדם בהלואותיו שלו איננו מעיק להלווים ולא רק שנותן להם הארכה אלא שהדבר נעשה בספ"י ובפיוס, הרי זה משפיע על המלוה הגדול הוא הקב"ה שגם הנהגתו הוא באופן כזה.
ואחכה לבשו"ט אשר אחרי הנתוח כבר הולך מצבו בטוב וחוזר לעבודתו ובכיוון הנ"ל והשי"ת יזכהו לבשר טובות ג"כ מחתנו בתו וזוגתו שיחיו.

Your letter from the 4th of Cheshvan was just received, in which you write that the date for your surgery has been set for this coming Friday. In addition to the telegram I sent you, I hereby repeat my blessing that the surgery should be at an auspicious and successful time, and that you should soon return to your strength and your work—helping the Jewish people with material assistance, which is certainly also spiritual assistance in the end.
Additionally, even the material well-being of the Jewish people—who are a kingdom of priests and a holy nation—is also holy to our G‑d. As is known from the saying of the Baal Shem Tov: a soul descends into a body for seventy years—and if with strength, eighty years—in order to do even one favor for another Jew in material or spiritual matters.
I was pleased to read in your letter that you recently married off your daughter to a good young man. Even though you write it is not easy to influence him regarding Torah and mitzvos, "according to the pain is the reward," and what does it matter if Hashem wants to give him great reward? On the contrary, this should strengthen your resolve in this matter—and certainly regarding parents' efforts to help their children materially.
It is known that everything a person receives is essentially a loan from the Creator of the world. The repayment comes when one arranges his life and actions so as to bring satisfaction to the Lender. Since man is made of flesh and his foundation is dust, he is prone to failure or delay in repayment. But it has been assured: nothing stands before willpower and teshuvah. The attribute of Hashem is measure for measure: when a person does not pressure his own borrowers but instead grants them extensions graciously and kindly, this influences the great Lender—Hashem—to act similarly toward him.
I await good news—that after your surgery your condition continues improving and you return to your work in this direction. May Hashem grant you good tidings also from your son-in-law, daughter, and wife.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that all blessings are loans from above; we repay them by living purposefully and bringing satisfaction to our Creator. Perseverance in helping others—materially or spiritually—and sincere teshuvah open channels for continued Divine kindness.
