Shalom u'Vrachah!

I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter suggesting that I come visit your communities to see and observe, etc. What can I do? To my regret, there are several concealments and obstacles—both physical and spiritual—that prevent and delay the fulfillment of this worthy and good matter. May Hashem remove the concealments and obstacles in general, and especially those mentioned above, so that we may meet in abundant joy.

Enclosed here is the kuntres for Chai Elul which has just been published; surely you will study it individually and publicly with careful attention to its teachings. May Hashem grant each of us the merit to bring vitality into all aspects of our service during this month of mercy: in teshuvah—"uMal Hashem Elokecha es levavcha v'es levav zar'echa" (and the L‑rd your G‑d will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring), Torah—"vehaElokim inah l'yado v'samti lecha makom" (and G‑d caused it to come to his hand; I will provide you a place), Avodah—"ani l'dodi v'dodi li" (I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine), and acts of kindness—"umishloach manos ish l'rei'eihu u'matanos la'evyonim" (and sending portions one to another and gifts to the poor).

According to the saying of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, that the illumination of all festivals shines every day, this will also extend throughout the entire year so that it will naturally be a good and sweet year both materially and spiritually together.

The one who blesses and is blessed with wishes for a good inscription and sealing for a good and sweet year.

Summary

The Rebbe writes that although he cannot visit due to various obstacles, he encourages strengthening Torah study, teshuvah, prayer, and acts of kindness during Elul. He blesses everyone for a good and sweet year both physically and spiritually.
