אויב די צייט וועלכע עס פאדערט זיך ביז ענדיקן איז ניט קיין צו לאנגע, און איז אויך ניט פארבונדען מיט אזעלכע סאבדזעקטס וועלכע זיינען א סתירה צו יראת שמים, איז וויבאלד איר האט שוין א צייט געלערענט דאס און דאס איז אויך דער ווילען פון [אייער] מוטער תחי', איז כדאי דאס צו פארענדיקען, אבער אויב איר דארפט נאך אוועקגעבען אויף דעם א ליינגערע צייט און פילע שעות אין טאג, דארפט איר זיך גוט אריינטראכטען אין דעם און בארעכענען דעם שכר און הפסד אין דעם, און השי"ת זאל אייך העלפען אז איר זאלט מצליח זיין אין אייערע ענינים בגשמיות וברוחניות.

I received your letter from the 26th of Tishrei, and due to various reasons my response was delayed. In your letter you ask regarding your studies in yeshiva and also about accounting, with the intention that this will later serve as a means for livelihood, and you ask my opinion: whether you should continue your accounting studies. You do not specify in your letter the main point—how much time you have already studied accounting and how much time you still need to complete it.
In general, it is self-evident that in one's younger years, time is much more precious than in later years, because what is accumulated in youth is like planting for the later years—from one seed many plants or even an entire tree can grow. If the time required to finish is not too long and it does not involve subjects that contradict fear of Heaven, then since you have already spent some time on this and it is also your mother's wish, it is worthwhile to complete it. However, if you would still need to devote a longer period and many hours each day to this, you should carefully consider and calculate the gain versus the loss involved. May Hashem help you succeed in your material and spiritual matters.
