לחגיגת הבר מצוה שלך בשבת בראשית הבע"ל, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי שתהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת ותצליח בלימודך ובקיום המצות.
ידוע מאמר רבינו הזקן ונמצא ג"כ בשל"ה, אשר הפרשה שקוראים בתורה שייכת להזמן בו קוראים אותה, ובשבת זו הבע"ל קוראים הסדרה בראשית המתחיל בראשית ברא אלקים את השמים ואת הארץ, והארץ היתה גו' וחשך גו' ויאמר אלקים יהי אור.
וזוהי הוראה כללית לכל בני ישראל בכלל, ובפרט לבר מצוה המתחיל את חייו בתור מחוייב בתורה ומצות כולם, אשר בגשתו להעבודה דתורה ומצות בהעולם, הנה עליו שיהי' תמיד לנגד עיניו הידיעה הברורה:
א) אשר האלקים ברא את השמים ואת הארץ, ומובן מזה אשר הוא הוא ית' הבעל בית היחידי בעולם ומלואו כולו.
ב) אשר חלק האדם בעולם הוא עדיין חשך, ועליו לתקנו ולהאירו.
ג) אשר התחלת עבודתו בזה הוא, לגלות בעולם, את "ויאמר אלקים", היינו לימוד התורה שהיא היא דבר הוי', וקיום המצות שהם מצות השם ית' שע"ז נאמר כי נר מצוה ותורה אור, ועי"ז מהפך הוא את חשך העולם לאור, ובלשון הזהר הקדוש, לאתהפכא חשוכא לנהורא ומרירו למיתקא,
ובשומו לנגד עיניו תמיד ידיעה זו, ילך לבטח דרכו, דרך הוי' לעשות צדקה ומשפט,

For your Bar Mitzvah celebration on the upcoming Shabbat Bereishit, I hereby express my blessing that it should be at a good and successful time and that you succeed in your studies and fulfillment of mitzvos.
It is known from the Alter Rebbe's teaching, also found in the Shelah, that the Torah portion read at a given time is connected to that period. On this coming Shabbat we read Bereishit: 'Bereishit bara Elokim et hashamayim ve'et haaretz' ("In the beginning G‑d created the heavens and the earth"), 'vehaaretz hayetah...' ("and the earth was..."), 'vayomer Elokim yehi or' ("And G‑d said: Let there be light").
This is a general lesson for all Jews—and especially for a Bar Mitzvah boy beginning his life as one obligated in all Torah and mitzvos—that as he approaches his service of Torah and mitzvos in the world, he must always keep these clear truths before his eyes: (a) That Elokim created heaven and earth; thus He alone is the sole Master of the entire world. (b) That a person's portion in the world is still darkness, and it is his task to repair and illuminate it. (c) That his work begins by revealing in the world 'Vayomer Elokim'—that is, Torah study which is truly G‑d's word, and mitzvah observance which are His commandments—about which it says 'for a mitzvah is a lamp and Torah is light.' Through this he transforms worldly darkness into light; as stated in Zohar haKadosh: 'to transform darkness into light and bitterness into sweetness.' By always keeping this knowledge before his eyes, he will walk securely on his path—the path of Hashem—to do righteousness and justice.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that a Bar Mitzvah marks not just personal growth but accepting responsibility to bring G‑dly light into one's surroundings through Torah study and mitzvos—transforming darkness into light by recognizing G‑d as Creator and acting with purpose.
