במענה על מכתבו שביום ב' ר"ח אלול ימלאו לבנו... שי' חמש שנים ומחנכים אותו להכניסו לחדר...
הנה כפי בקשתו אזכירו על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ בשעת הכושר.
ואשלח פה ברכותי אשר יזכו לגדלו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה, ועל פי מאמר המשנה בן חמש שנים למקרא ומבאר בלקו"ת (ביאור דולא תשבית) אשר פנימיות התורה בכלל מקרא (ועיין ג"כ בהל' ת"ת לאדמו"ר הזקן פ"ב סוף סימן א'), הנה יגדלוהו לתורה ולהמאור שבתורה היא פנימיות התורה, אשר זהו תורת חסידות חב"ד שהנחילונו נשיאי חב"ד ולנו בפרט - נשיאנו הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ.

In response to your letter stating that on Monday, Rosh Chodesh Elul, your son... shiy' will turn five years old and you are educating him to enter cheder...
As per your request, I will mention him at the resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m, at an auspicious time. I also send my blessings that you merit to raise him to Torah, marriage, and good deeds with abundance. As stated in the Mishnah: "At five years old [one is fit] for Scripture," which is explained in Likkutei Torah (commentary on 'Do Not Extinguish') that the inner dimension of Torah is also included in Scripture (see also Hilchos Talmud Torah by the Alter Rebbe, chapter 2 end of section 1). Thus, you should raise him to Torah and to the light within Torah—which is the inner dimension of Torah—namely Chabad Chassidus that our Chabad leaders have bequeathed us and especially our leader, my father-in-law the Rebbe hk"m.
