חכיתי, בשעתו; למכתבו מבשר מנסיעתו וביאתו שלום לביתו. ואח"כ נודעתי שהיתה ידיעה כזו אצל כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א עתה בבקשה באתי אליו, וזה תוכנה: תחלת חדש תמוז תרצ"ז נתקבל לכאן - על אדרסתי - מן ד. פאטאשניק בלטימורא, טשעק על סך שני מאות דולר, בשביל כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א.
והנה בעל הבאנק אשר לו ניתן הטשעק לגבות, שבק חל"ח ויורשיו פשטו את הרגל והולכים עתה בערכאות ומשפטים.
כדי ליפות כח טענותינו פה, נחוץ פה או הטשעק עצמו (שהוא נמצא או בהבאנק של פאטאשניק, או שכבר החזירוהו לפאטשניק ונמצא אצלו) או, על כל פנים, אם הנ"ל אי אפשר, פוטוגרפיא מהטשעק משני צדדיו. וההקדם בזה ישובח.
ולכן בקשתי, לבא בקשור, אם בעצמו או ע"י עו"ד, עם פאטשניק, ולהשתדל שישלח לכאן בהקדם הטשעק או עכ"פ הפוטוגראפיא וגם הודעת זמן גבית הטשעק בארצה"ב.

I waited, at the time, for your letter informing me of your journey and safe arrival home. Afterwards, I learned that such information had reached my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita. Now I come to you with a request, as follows:
At the beginning of Tammuz 5697 (summer 1937), a check for two hundred dollars was received here—at my address—from D. Patashnik in Baltimore, for my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita. The bank owner who was given the check to collect has passed away, and his heirs have gone bankrupt and are now involved in legal proceedings. To strengthen our claims here, it is necessary to have either the check itself (which is either at Patashnik's bank or has already been returned to Patashnik and is with him) or at least, if that is not possible, a photograph of both sides of the check. The sooner this can be done, the better.
Therefore my request is that you contact—either personally or through an attorney—Patashnik and try to have him send here as soon as possible either the check or at least its photograph, as well as information on when the check was cashed in America. I am not writing directly to D. Patashnik because I do not know him personally.
And in order to expedite all this I am writing from here rather than through the office in Otvotsk. I rely on your understanding to handle this matter in the best way possible; thank you in advance.
I take this opportunity to remind you about the Chassidic discourses from last year that you borrowed from me; surely you will return them now. I would also be very grateful if you could send me some copies of the discourse given to you in Perchtoldsdorf (which was surely printed as you mentioned in Vienna).
You promised me in Vienna that upon your safe return home you would try to obtain notes—or copies—from "Ashkavta d'Rabbi," and also search if there are any such notes from talks and discourses of my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita during his time in America; surely you will fulfill this promise as well.
I conclude with wishes for all good things and await your reply regarding all of the above.
