Guidance on Approaching a Daughter's Medical Needs and Family Involvement

[ה'תשל"ג]
The Rebbe writes that only limited closeness should be shown, as more could be misinterpreted as approval. While the daughter seems to need a doctor and her health is her husband's responsibility, regarding finances and encouraging her to see a doctor, the questioner and her husband should act.

(1) No more than simple closeness should be shown (because over time this could be interpreted as a kind of agreement and approval of her conduct).

(2) Although it appears the daughter needs a doctor, and a woman's health is her husband's responsibility (though regarding marital relations—a rabbi should be consulted), regarding finances and trying to get her to go to a doctor—nevertheless, not the questioner or her husband should act upon their son-in-law.

Summary

The Rebbe advises maintaining only limited closeness to avoid giving unintended approval, and clarifies that while the daughter's health is primarily her husband's concern, the parents may encourage medical care but should not intervene directly with their son-in-law.
