איך דאַנק אייך פאַר דער אויפמערקזאַמקייט צו שיקן מיר דעם זשורנאַל "אידיש" אונטער אייער חשוב'ער רעדאַקציע, וואָס האָט מיר נאַטירלעך אינטערעסירט דורכצוקוקן. איך האָף, אַז איר וועט אויך צושיקן די ווייטערדיקע אויסגאַבן.
מסתם וועט איר ניט נעמען פאַר אומגוט וואָס איך וועל אָנהויבן דעם בריוו מיט אַ באַמערקונג, אַז כאָטש בכלל איז דאָך וויכטיק דער אינהאַלט, ניט אַזוי די "כלי" - אין דעם פאַל, די שפּראַך, אָבער עס איז דאָך זיכער אַז די שפּראַך האָט אַ ספּעציעלע באַדייטונג און ווירקונג. דערפאַר, אויב מצד פאַרשידענע סיבות ווערט דער זשורנאַל אַרויסגעגעבן אויף ענגליש, האָט אָבער געדאַרפט זיין ווייניקסטנס אַ קורצער אינהאַלט פון די אַרטיקלען אין אידיש, ווי עס פירט זיך אין מערערע זשורנאַלן.
אין פאָרזעצונג צו דאָס אויבנגעשריבענע וויל איך אויך אויסדריקן דעם וואונש, אַז דער אינהאַלט פונם זשורנאַל "אידיש" זאָל זיין דורכגעדרונגען מיט דעם גייסט פון אמת'ער אידישקייט, און אמת שליסט דאָך אויס פשרות.
זעלבסטפאַרשטענדלעך איז מיר באַוואוסט די מורא פון געוויסע קרייזן ניט צו זאָגן דעם פולן אמת כדי ניט אָפּצושרעקן, אָדער, ווי זיי דריקן זיך אויס, "ניט צו פאַרטרייבן". אָבער גראַדע אין די לעצטע יאָרן זעט מען, אַז די יוגנט שרעקט זיך ניט פאַרן אמת אויב נאָר זי האָט דעם געפיל, אַז מ'זאָגט זיי די זאַך ווי זי איז און מ'האַלט דערביי מיט אַן אמת. און זיכער, ווי אין פאַל פון יעדן בוך אָדער זשורנאַל, איז מען העכסט פאַראינטערעסירט צוצוציען די יוגנט.

I thank you for your attention in sending me the journal "Yiddish" under your esteemed editorship, which naturally interested me to review. I hope you will also send the upcoming issues.
Presumably you will not take it amiss that I begin this letter with a comment: although generally the content is what matters and not so much the vessel—in this case, the language—still, it is certain that language has a special significance and effect. Therefore, if for various reasons the journal is published in English, there should at least be a brief summary of the articles in Yiddish, as is customary in several journals.
Continuing from the above, I also want to express my wish that the content of the journal "Yiddish" be permeated with the spirit of true Judaism, and truth does not allow for compromise. Of course, I am aware of the fear among certain circles not to state the full truth so as not to frighten or—as they put it—not to drive people away. However, especially in recent years one sees that youth are not afraid of truth if they feel they are being told things as they are and that one stands by them with sincerity. And certainly, as with any book or journal, there is a great interest in attracting youth.
With respect and wishing to hear good news regarding all of the above.
