Shalom u'Vrachah!
As we approach the Festival of Matzos, the Season of our Freedom, which is coming upon us and all Israel for good, I hereby express my blessing for a kosher and joyful holiday and for true freedom—freedom from material worries and spiritual worries—from anything that hinders serving Hashem with joy and gladness of heart. May this freedom and joy continue throughout the entire year.
Especially since serving Hashem, as commanded in our Torah—the Torah of Life—applies to all aspects of a person’s life and throughout every day and night, as it is said: 'Bechol Derachecha Da'eihu' (In all your ways know Him).
With appreciation and respect and with holiday blessings,
M. Schneersohn
I received your letter etc., but at the same time—I was surprised (a surprise tinged with sadness) by its tone and by some of your recent words etc., whose reasoning seems to be that since in a few weeks your current term is ending, already now there is a noticeable change etc. Besides this not being correct or good—and after asking much forgiveness—since your intention is surely that your dealings etc. be conducted faithfully—therefore each day carries the full responsibility of your role upon you—as on the very first day ten years ago; together with this comes the full empowerment to fulfill the role, along with the full merit in fulfilling it. Therefore there is absolutely no place for such a mood or similar feelings.
There is much more to elaborate on this—but certainly you do not need it at all. I also hesitate to use the style of moral preachers; therefore I will suffice with their conclusion—and most importantly—with the conclusion of the exile period: 'Uva LeTzion Goel VeNe'emar Amen' (And a redeemer shall come to Zion and let us say Amen), and may the prophecy be fulfilled: 'Kimei Tzeischa Me'eretz Mitzrayim Arenu Niflaot' (As in the days when you left Egypt I will show you wonders).
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true freedom means being free from both material and spiritual worries so one can serve Hashem with joy. Every day holds full responsibility and opportunity; even as roles change, one should remain dedicated until redemption arrives.
