עס האָט מיר געפרייט צו באַקומען די ידיעה, אַז די יערלעכע מסיבה איז באַשטימט געוואָרן אויף ט' אדר שני, דער היסטאָרישער טאָג ווען כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר איז אָנגעקומען אין אַמעריקא מיט 33 יאָר צוריק.

באַקאַנט, האָט דער רבי דער שווער, תיכף ביים אָנקומען, דערקלערט, אַז ניט צוליב זיך איז ער געקומען, נאָר אַז די השגחה עליונה האָט אים געבראַכט צו באַטרעטן די אַמעריקאַנער ערד,

נאָך די אַלע יאָרן וועלכע זיינען דורכגעמאַכט געוואָרן זינט יענעם טאָג, איז זיכער פּאַסנד צו מאַכן אַ חשבון, וואָס ס'איז אויפגעטאָן געוואָרן. און זיכער איז דאָ פון וואָס צו זיין צופרידן.
אָבער צוזאַמען דערמיט, אַרומקוקנדיג וואָס עס טוט זיך אַרום זיך, און וויפל אידישע קינדער און יוגנטלעכע בלאָנדזשן נאָך אַרום אין דער פינצטער, וואַרטנדיג אַז אימיצער זאָל צו זיי אויסשטרעקן אַ האַנט און אַרויספירן פון דער פינצטערניש צו דער ליכטיקייט פון תורה ומצוות, שאַפט זיך דער פאַרדריסלעכער געפיל, אַז ניט קוקנדיג אויף אַלע דערגרייכונגען, האָט מען דאָך געקענט אויפטאָן נאָך מער. און דאָ קען איינפאַלן אַ פסול'ער געדאַנק: "וואָס געווען איז געווען, פאַרפאַלן. לאָמיר יעדנפאַלס להבא זען, אַז יעדער טאָג זאָל אויפטאָן דאָס זייניגע".

ממלא זיין דעם חסרון
פון דעם לבנה-יאָר (דער יסוד פון אונזער לוח) לגבי דעם זון-יאָר, כדי אונזערע ימים טובים זאָלן אויספאַלן אין זייער ריכטיגער צייט (פסח אין פרילינג, וכו'). אָבער אין דעם איז אויך דאָ די אָנווייזונג, אַז אַ איד דאַרף ממלא זיין דאָס וואָס ער האָט פאַרפעלט אין דער פאַרגאַנגענער צייט.
נאָכמער, פּונקט ווי אין פאַל פונם עיבור-יאָר, ווען עס קומט צו אַ גאַנצער חודש, איז דאָס ניט נאָר ממלא דעם חסרון פון די פריערדיגע יאָרן, נאָך אויך מיט אַ

אויפן חשבון פון די קומענדיגע יאָרן, אַזוי דאַרף אַ איד באַמיען זיך ניט נאָר ממלא צו זיין וואָס ער האָט פאַרפעלט - ניט וויכטיג וואָס די סיבות זיינען געווען און ווי באַרעכטיגט זיי זיינען געווען, נאָר מיט אַ צוגאָב אַלס אַן "אַדערויף" אויף דער צוקונפט.
איך וויל האָפן, און בין זיכער, אַז דער אָפּרוף פון אַלע אָנטיילנעמער, בפרט פון די געערטע נציבים און עסקנים, שיחיו, וועט הייאָר זיין אַ ספּעציעל וואַרעמער, כדי צוזאַמען מיט דער ישיבה קענען דורכפירן בפועל ממש די הוראה פונם עיבור-יאָר, ווי אויבנדערמאָנט.
זייט אַלע באַגריסט, און געבענטשט פון השם יתברך מיט גרויס הצלחה, סיי אין דער אונטערנעמונג און סיי בכלל, בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased to receive the news that the annual gathering has been set for 9 Adar II, the historic day when my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, arrived in America 33 years ago. As is well known, immediately upon his arrival, the Rebbe—my father-in-law—declared that he did not come for his own sake; rather, Divine Providence brought him to step onto American soil in order, with G‑d's help, to make America a place of Torah with awe of Heaven, in the spirit of Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch.
After all these years that have passed since that day, it is certainly appropriate to make an accounting of what has been accomplished. Surely there is much to be satisfied about. However, at the same time, looking around at what is happening and how many Jewish children and youth are still wandering in darkness—waiting for someone to reach out a hand and bring them from darkness into the light of Torah and mitzvos—a disappointing feeling arises: that despite all achievements, even more could have been accomplished.
At this point a negative thought may arise: what happened is lost; let us at least ensure that from now on each day accomplishes its purpose. But for a Jew there is no such thing as "lost." This is especially reminded to us by this (current) leap year—particularly as we are now in the leap month. The idea of a leap year is to fill in what was lacking in the lunar year (the basis of our calendar) compared to the solar year so that our festivals fall at their proper times (Pesach in spring, etc.).
But within this lies a lesson: a Jew must fill what he missed in previous times. Moreover—just as with a leap year where an entire month is added—not only does it fill past deficiencies but also adds extra days for future years; so too must a Jew strive not only to make up for what was missed—regardless of reasons or justifications—but also add extra effort as an investment toward the future.
I wish and am certain that this year's call from all participants—especially from the esteemed leaders and activists—will be particularly warm so that together with the yeshiva they can truly fulfill in practice the lesson from this leap year as mentioned above.
May you all be greeted and blessed by Hashem Yisborach with great success both in this endeavor and generally—in material and spiritual matters together.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that nothing is ever truly lost; just as a leap year fills past gaps and adds for the future, so too should we strive to make up for missed opportunities while increasing our efforts going forward.
