Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased to receive your letter in which you write about the visit of Chabad members to the Golan Heights during Chanukah and their activities and impressions, etc. Thank you very much for the great satisfaction you have given me with this letter.
Especially since my strong hope is that the mentioned impression finds expression also in actual deed—that is, not only in spiritual elevation as you write in your letter, but also in physical elevation; I mean actions of the body and its conduct in daily life—or in simpler terms: practical mitzvos. Our Sages of blessed memory emphasized that action is the main thing.
This is especially relevant to IDF soldiers who defend our holy land and its inhabitants—may they succeed in this. As it is written: 'Ki Hashem Elokecha Mithalech Bekerev Machanecha LeHatzilecha U'Letet Oyvecha Lefanecha VeHayah Machanecha Kadosh' (For the L‑rd your G‑d walks within your camp to save you and deliver your enemies before you; therefore your camp shall be holy) (Devarim 23:15).
As has been discussed many times—and it is a general principle seen tangibly everywhere—when the enemy sees the great strength and determination of the defenders, it frightens and deters him from provoking war; for fear and dread will fall upon them.
May it be G‑d's will that there will be good news regarding all of this, and soon may the prophecy be fulfilled: 'Venatati Shalom BaAretz U'Shechavtem VeEin Macharid... VeHolachti Etchem Komemiyut' (And I will grant peace in the land and you shall lie down with none to make you afraid... And I will lead you upright) (Vayikra 26:6-13).
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that spiritual inspiration must lead to practical mitzvos. For soldiers defending Eretz Yisrael, maintaining holiness and strong action brings both personal protection and broader peace.
