זה עתה קבלתי מכתב כת"ר מאור ליו"ד כסלו, ולדחיפות הענין עונה גם כן מהיר דחוף.
(א) בודאי אשר כל
כינוס
שיכול להביא להתחזקות בעניני תורה ומצותי' וכו' וכו' נחוץ ונכון וטוב הוא, ובפרט כאשר קשור בתורת החסידות ועניני'.
(ב) כיון שנקבע הכינוס לבעוד שבועיים, וכנראה ממכתבו מעטים, על כל פנים לעת עתה, המתעסקים בהכנת הכינוס, אין "לחייב" את הכינוס בתוצאות גדולות ביותר, בכדי שלא תהי' אכזבה ח"ו וכו'. לכן כדאי שייקרא "כנס הכנה" וכיו"ב.
(ג) מובן וגם פשוט, אשר באם יש ספק בנוגע לאישים מסויימים (כגון אלה שמזכירם במכתבו ושואל אודותם, וכיוצא בהם) אם להזמינם או לא - ספקו לשלילה, היינו שלא להזמינם. שהרי כיון שזהו כנס של הכנה, אין מקום לקפידה מפלוני שלא הזמינוהו, אבל יש חשש אם כן יזמינוהו.
(ד) מטעם האמור ועוד כמה טעמים, אין לכתוב שזהו בנשיאות שלי וכו'. [כיון שתו"מ תהי' הקפדה מכו"כ שלא הודעתי אותם ע"ד הכנס וההכנה וכו'. וכנ"ל עוד טעמים בדבר שלא לכתוב את האמור].
(ה) לאידך גיסא, למרות שיקראו לכנס "כנס הכנה", מובן שנוגע
וביותר
שיהי' בהצלחה. לכן כדאי להבטיח שתהי' ההשתתפות בו כראוי, הן בכמות והן באיכות. ובודאי כיון
שנאמר
ותשועה ברוב יועץ, יתיעץ עם אנ"ש מבינים איך להבטיח את ההשתתפות באופן האמור.
(ו) אף כי לכאורה למותר הוא, בכל זה מפני חשיבות הדבר אזכיר גם זה, שצריך להזהר שלא יהי' בהענין כל ענין פוליטי או מפלגתי וכיו"ב.
(ז) בתור השתתפות, על כל פנים במקצת, בהוצאות הכנס, בקשתי למסור לו אלף לירות, אבל הוא באופן חשאי, כדי לשלול קפידות וכו', כנ"ל ס' (ד). וק"ל.
בודאי יאשר קבלת מכתבי זה וג"כ מהיר דחוף, ות"ח מראש.

I have just received your letter dated the eve of Yud Kislev, and due to the urgency of the matter I am responding quickly and urgently as well.
(a) Certainly, any gathering that can bring about strengthening in matters of Torah and mitzvos, etc., is necessary, proper, and good—especially when it is connected with Chassidus and its matters.
(b) Since the gathering is set for about two weeks from now, and as it seems from your letter there are currently few people involved in preparing it (at least for now), one should not obligate the gathering to produce very great results so there will not be disappointment. Therefore, it is advisable to call it a preparatory gathering or something similar.
(c) It is understood and obvious that if there is doubt regarding certain individuals (such as those you mention in your letter and ask about) whether to invite them or not—the doubt should be resolved negatively; that is, they should not be invited. Since this is a preparatory gathering, there is no reason for anyone to take offense at not being invited, but there could be an issue if they are invited.
(d) For this reason and several others, do not write that this event is under my auspices, etc. [Because then others may take offense that I did not inform them until the gathering or its preparation. As above—there are further reasons not to write this.]
(e) On the other hand, even though it will be called a preparatory gathering, it is still very important that it be successful. Therefore, efforts should be made to ensure proper participation—both in quantity and quality. Certainly—as it says "uTeshuah b'Rov Yoetz" (salvation comes with much counsel)—consult with knowledgeable Anash on how best to ensure such participation.
(f) Although this may seem unnecessary to mention, due to the importance of the matter I will note as well: care must be taken that there should be no political or partisan aspect involved in this matter or anything similar.
(g) As my participation—at least partially—in the expenses of the gathering: my request is to give you one thousand lira for this purpose—but do so discreetly in order to avoid any offense etc., as above in section (d). And this suffices.
Certainly you will confirm receipt of this letter quickly and urgently as well; thank you in advance.
