חכמינו ז"ל מגלגלין זכות ליומין זכאין, כיון שנכנסנו לחודש אלול, וידוע ביאור כ"ק אדמו"ר הזקן בענין סגולת ימי חודש זה, על פי משל ממלך שקודם בואו לעיר יוצאין אנשי העיר להקביל פניו בשדה, ואז רשאין כל מי שרוצה להקביל פניו והוא מקבל את כולם בסבר פנים יפות ומראה פנים שוחקות לכולם וכו' (לקוטי תורה, פ' ראה ל"ב) – יהי רצון שימלא ה' משאלות לבבו לטובה, ובסגנון המשל – בסבר פנים יפות,
והנקודה העקרית אשר יזכה ויצליח לנצל הכשרונות בם חונן – לשלימות העם והארץ ובתנאי העיקרי של שלימות זו, שלימות תורתנו, אשר כאמור נקראת תורת אמת, והרי אמת שוללת פשרה, לא רק פשרה וויתור לרובו של ענין או מחציתו, אלא פשרה כל שהיא. וכיון אשר התורה ניתנה לבני אדם דוקא וניתנה מיוצר האדם היודע טבעו, בודאי אשר מקודם לכן ניתנה לאדם הרשות והיכולת לניצול כל האפשריות בכיון האמור, ולא עוד, אלא בשמחה, ובסגנון

, עבדו את ה' בשמחה, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא ברצון.
וגדולה זכות כל אלה אשר השפעה להם בסביבתם ואפילו בסביבה רחוקה על ידי כתיבה והדפסה וכו'.

שי' שגם הוא חונן בכשרון הכתיבה והפרסום וכו', ומטובו למסור גם לו פ"ש ונקודות ממכתב זה השייכות גם לבנו, ואם תמצא לומר, להיות בנו קרוב יותר לנוער ולצעירים, אחריותו וגם זכותו גדולים עוד יותר.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
Just now your precious gift was delivered to me—three volumes of Talmud El Am with English translation—together with your birthday wishes.
Let us begin with the main thing: to return a blessing to the sender. My words have already been stated in our Torah, a Torah of truth and life: "Va'avarchecha Mevarechecha" (I will bless those who bless you), that Hashem, the source of blessing, blesses those who bless others with His full, open, holy, and generous hand.
And in the language of our Sages: "Merit is brought about by meritorious people." Since we have entered the month of Elul—and it is well known how our master Admor HaZaken explains the special quality of these days through a parable: Before a king enters a city, its people go out to greet him in the field; then anyone who wishes may approach him and he receives everyone graciously and with a smiling face (Likkutei Torah Parshas Re'eh 32b)—may it be Hashem's will to fulfill all your heart's desires for good. In the style of this parable—graciously. The main point is that you should merit and succeed in utilizing your G‑d-given talents for the completeness of our people and land—and most importantly, for the completeness of our Torah which is called "Torat Emet" (Torah of Truth). Truth excludes compromise—not only compromise or concession on most or half an issue but any compromise whatsoever.
Since Torah was given specifically to human beings by their Creator Who knows their nature, surely beforehand man was granted permission and ability to utilize all possibilities in this direction—and moreover, with joy! As it says: "Ivdu es Hashem b'Simchah" (Serve Hashem with joy), and all depends only on one's will.
Great is the merit of all those who have influence in their surroundings—even distant ones—through writing and publishing.
I recall that you told me about your son who is also gifted in writing and publishing; please kindly share with him points from this letter relevant to him. If one could say so—since your son is closer to youth and young people—his responsibility and merit are even greater.
I conclude with renewed thanks for your aforementioned gift and with blessings for a good inscription and sealing—for you and all yours—with honor and blessing.
