מאשר אני קבלת מכתבו מיום ח' בטבת, שהגיע באיחור זמן רב. ואולי הלך בדואר רגיל.
אף שמובן, אשר בבוא הזמן ותהי' האפשרות להתעסק, כלשונו, "בבנין
עיר האבות
אברהם יצחק ויעקב", אעשה בזה כפי היכולת והאמצעים שיעמדו אז לרשותי,
אבל כיון שבעוה"ר עדין אין אפשרות זו, והמדובר הוא בהדגשה מחוץ לגבולות עיר האמורה, הנה מפני ההדגשה האמורה לצערי אין בידי לקחת חלק בהאמור.
מטעמים מובנים, והעיקר כדי שלא לתת מקום לפירושים מסולפים וגם לא לנפילת רוח וחלישות בבטחון, הכתוב לעיל הוא לא לפירסום, כי אם רק מפני הכבוד, כיון שכתב אלי בענין כאוב כהאמור.

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 8th of Tevet, which arrived after a considerable delay. Perhaps it was sent by regular mail.
Although it is understood that when the time comes and there will be an opportunity to be involved—as you put it—in building the City of the Patriarchs Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov, I will do so to the extent possible and with whatever means are then available to me. However, since at present in this world such an opportunity does not exist, and since the matter is specifically emphasized as being outside the boundaries of the aforementioned city, due to this emphasis I regret that I am unable to take part in what was mentioned.
For obvious reasons—and mainly so as not to give room for misinterpretations or for discouragement and weakening of trust—the above is not for publication but only out of respect, since you wrote to me about such a painful matter as described.
