[Marcheshvan, 5732]
I was very pleased about this (in addition to the incomparable main point—nachas ruach—which is above all—shalom u'vrachah!) that from the depths of my heart I am aware that a Jewish son is drawn and acts through giving charity. Through this—as the Alter Rebbe says (Tanya ch. 34)—they become truly a chariot for the Divine will, especially when it is an amount he is not accustomed to giving, etc., and particularly since this charity was given in the month of Tishrei—the general month and the beginning and guide for the entire year.
Therefore, regarding what was written above about making a total sum, etc., and showing it, etc., as last year—this is not so. Either all the accounts have not yet reached him, or there is an error in calculation, etc. Surely he will inform me of the true total—and thanks in advance.
There is special nachas ruach that came through this that immediately (at once) with the above—they blessed him and his wife—may Hashem grant them success—in the joyous engagement of their son, may he live, in a Jewish, Torah-true, and Chassidic manner. And this is a path toward the wedding mentioned above and their way of life, etc.
Summary
The Rebbe highlights how giving charity—especially in Tishrei—uplifts both giver and family spiritually. He encourages accuracy in accounting for mitzvahs and blesses for continued growth in Torah values leading to family joy.
