Haraha"g Haraha"ch iy"a nu"m baal middot askan rav pe'alim ish hama'alah beneshek etc. Yitzchak Meir HaKohen
Shalom u'Vrachah!
I received your letter and since its content was puzzling to me, I wanted to delay my response until I received additional information from the relevant parties. However, since Haraha"g and Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n askan in tzt"z rav pe'alim Harash Sh. Alberg told me that you requested clarification from me regarding the letter, I do not wish to delay further.
The reason for my astonishment is that it is well known that for many years my practice has been not to mention any individual person or even a specific party by name; this was also my conduct at the farbrengen to which your letter apparently refers.
Another point: My request and urging—and surprise—were about the lack of denial regarding the rumor about which you write. Before I spoke about this at the farbrengen, I tried to clarify here within Agudat Yisrael circles why there was no denial but did not receive an answer. Even though I was told that everything about which I asked—why there was no denial—was printed in Sha'arim and so forth, after several weeks there still was no denial.
Furthermore, it should be added that my request for a denial was obviously not for my own honor nor for the honor of my father's house but rather to prevent misinterpretation of the lack of denial among circles that are growing in number. My request for a denial concerned not only the matter about which you wrote but also what was published in HaAretz regarding a conversation with Rebbetzin M., and what was supposedly said to her concerning the silence of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah. It is surprising that you do not mention any of this.
I also spoke with your brother-in-law Haraha"g etc. Hararash B., shlita (during his visit here), about issuing a denial on this matter.
Since new things arise daily: another matter has been added—that supposedly a well-known Rosh Yeshiva in Agudat Yisrael called someone privately and told him that although he had promised to act regarding repealing the "Who is a Jew" law and to take various actions on this issue, since a certain pamphlet was published etc., he cancels all his promises and will do nothing etc.
It is understood that this too is being used among those growing circles; they call the Rosh Yeshiva by name and interpret this matter as reflecting on all Roshei Yeshiva in general etc., etc.
May it be G‑d's will that as we approach the time of Matan Torateinu—when Hashem chose His people Israel from among all nations—and as it says in Masechet Sofrim that on Motzaei Atzeret we read Ruth (from which most halachot of conversion are derived), Hashem will repair breaches among His people Israel and all the world will recognize—as stated at Matan Torah: "U'Shmartem et Briti v'Heyitem Li Segulah Mikol HaAmim" (And you shall keep My covenant and you shall be My treasured nation from among all peoples).
