I acknowledge receipt of your letter in which you request a blessing regarding your son from the 17th of Iyar. At an auspicious time it will be read at the Tziyun of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, zatzal.

Regarding your writing about your son—based on the description in your letter, it does not seem advisable that he should begin (now) studying a profession that will require four or five years and during this time various exams and so forth—only after this will it become clear which profession is actually suitable for him and under what conditions, etc. It is more logical that he should become interested in something that requires much shorter preparation and that he can begin preparing for even while still in the army.

The Rebbe advises choosing practical paths with shorter preparation times when circumstances are uncertain, allowing flexibility and earlier progress even during military service.
