נ.ב. בודאי לא יקפיד מר על הבא לקמן, ובהקדם שבודאי יודע כי בדורנו לא כל אחד מתעסק ולומד הספרים הבאים לידו, וכמה וכמה מסתפקים בקריאה (בלי לימוד) שטחית (ולפעמים עד כדי דפדוף וכיו"ב), אשר לכן מה טוב למנוע במדה האפשרית טעות גם מאלה שהם שטחיים ביותר.
ועוד להוסיף בזה אשר רבים מאלה הרעשנים ומשמיעי קולם ודעתם וקופצים בראש, הרי מרוב טרדתם בזה אין זמנם פנוי לעיון ואפילו פחות מזה.
הקדמה זו – ארוכה לפי ערך – באה בנוגע לסיום הספר של מר, רשימת שמות בתי כנסת, אשר לכאורה צריך הי' להוסיף, ואולי גם עתה לאחרי ההדפסה, בראשה שזוהי רשימה של בתי כנסת שהיו קיימות בשנות 50-1948. ואף שמובן הדבר לכל מי שיקרא ההקדמה, ועל אחת כמה וכמה הקורא גם בפנים הספר, הרי כאמור לעיל הדברים אמורים לא כלפי חוקרי דברי ימי ישראל וקורא עיוני, כי אם בנוגע לסוג הנ"ל אשר כמדומה לי אינו מועט בכמות. ובפרט שהתיקון הרי אפשר שיהי' על ידי הוספת שורה מודבקת בגומי בראש הרשימה.
ואת מר הסליחה על ההערה, כיון שהסילוף בזה רב תוצאות.
בודאי כבר שמע מר מכמה וכמה על דבר החשיבות המיוחדת לזכרונות ולדו"ח מתקופת שנתים האלו (50-1948), ואסיים גם בחוות דעתי מתאים להאמור. ובטח יימצא סוף סוף מי שיקח על עצמו לתאר תיאור מספיק, אף שעדין אינו שלם כיון שאין כל החומר מצוי בנוגע למדינה ההיא בתקופת רבת הנסיונות ורבת המאורעות בכלל, ובחיי אחינו בני ישראל בפרט, של עשור שנים שלאחרי מלחמת עולם השני'.

Certainly you will not take offense at what follows, and as you surely know, in our generation not everyone studies or engages with books that come into their hands; many are satisfied with a superficial reading (sometimes just flipping through), so it is good to prevent possible errors even for those who are most superficial. Furthermore, many of those who make noise and loudly express their opinions are so busy with this that they have no time for study—even less than that.
This introduction—which is long relative to its subject—relates to the end of your book: the list of synagogue names. It seems necessary to add (perhaps even now after printing) at the beginning that this is a list of synagogues that existed during the years 1948–1950. Even though this is clear to anyone who reads the introduction—and certainly to anyone who reads inside the book—as mentioned above, these comments are not directed at scholars or careful readers but rather at those types mentioned above, who seem not few in number. Especially since the correction could be made by adding a line affixed with glue at the top of the list.
Please forgive me for this comment, since any distortion here can have significant consequences. Surely you have already heard from many about the special importance of memories and reports from those two years (1948–1950), and I will conclude by sharing my opinion accordingly. Surely someone will eventually take upon themselves to provide a sufficient description—even if still incomplete since not all material is available—regarding that country during its time of many trials and events in general, and especially regarding Jewish life there during the decade after World War II.
