Shalom u'Vrachah!
I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 25th of Sivan regarding... I see from your letter a fundamental inconsistency: the description of the dispute between the couple in your letter is as if their disagreements are about Chabad customs and related matters, while for several years now I have received descriptions that the disagreement concerns halachic matters (dinim of Shulchan Aruch). In all this I have written several times that they should try to speak with each other directly; after that they should speak with the local mara d'atra (community rabbi) where they live, etc., and only after that should they turn to Beit Din.
In any case, since peace is great in general—and especially in bringing peace between husband and wife—I am writing again to the husband shiyichyeh and am attaching a copy as you requested.
With honor and blessing.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that when marital disputes arise—whether about customs or halachah—one should first seek direct dialogue and consult local rabbinic authority before escalating to Beit Din. Above all, pursuing peace between spouses is of utmost importance.
