לאחרי ההפסק הכי ארוך, הפתעה נעימה היתה לי לקבל מכתבו בצירוף הספר
כתבים מתימטיים
לד"ר פסח חברוני. ומטובו למסור לכל חברי הועד ת"ח בעד עותק ב' של הספר. ובפרט, ככתבו, הרי המחבר ע"ה הי' מגזע חב"ד.
רואני רשום בספר שזהו חלק מעזבונו של המחבר המנוח, ואתענין לדעת עכ"פ בתוכן שאר העזבון, בפרט שיש בין הכתבים כנראה רשימות מדברי ימי המשפחה וכולי.
הנני מוצא בהזדמנות זו אפשריות מיוחדה להזכיר למר את הבטחתו בהיותו כאן לשלוח אלי גם פרי עטו הוא במשך כל השנים, אשר רק ספר אחד שהו"ל בשנים האחרונות נמצא בספרי' שלי. ותודה מראש.
בהזדמנות זו אביע גם תקותי ואיחולי אשר הכל שלום אצל בני ביתו שי', כולל ראש המשפחה היינו מר, ושלום אמתי, בנוסח הידוע, בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד, ובאופן פנימי יותר – בגוף ובנפש גם יחד, ובנקודה פנימית עוד יותר – שלום בין שתי הנשמות שיש לכל איש מישראל, בלשון רבנו הזקן, נפש האלקית ונפש הבהמית, וכמובן ופשוט באופן דהגברת הצורה על החומר והרוח על הגשם.

ארשה לעצמי לבוא בהצעה, ואף שבאה לאחרי החתימה עקרית היא וגם נפשית, אשר כיון שהועד לקח על עצמו ההוצאה לאור של כתבי המחבר המנוח, בודאי ידאג ג"כ שיהי' בסדר כל הקשור לעילוי נשמתו, שמירת היא"צ, לימוד משניות, נתינה לצדקה וכולי. ובודאי לדכוותי' דמר אין צורך באריכות בדבר.
ועיין ג"כ בהמבוא שכתבו מר, תיכף בפרק א' שלו, אשר לאחרי ההבנה וההשגה וההעמקה בחכמת המתימטיקה, שהיא היסוד לשאר החכמות, אומרים שעתה "מתחיל הנעלם הידוע רק לנעלם על כל נעלם". שהכוונה בזה מובנת וגם פשוטה ובאופן חד משמעותי, בסגנון

הגדול, גם המורה לנבוכים שבכל הדורות: "יסוד היסודות ועמוד החכמות לידע שיש שם מצוי ראשון כו' ואין אמתתו כאמתת אחד מהם (שאר הנמצאים) כו' כי אין כח בדעת האדם החי כו' להשיג אמתתו" נעלם מכל נעלם.

After the longest pause, it was a pleasant surprise for me to receive your letter along with the book "Mathematical Writings" by Dr. Pesach Chevroni. I appreciate your kindness in passing on to all members of the committee my thanks for a second copy of the book. Especially, as you wrote, since the author of blessed memory was from Chabad lineage.
I see recorded in the book that this is part of the estate of the late author, and I am interested to know—according to your knowledge—the content of the rest of his estate, especially since among his writings there apparently are notes about family history and so on.
I take this opportunity to remind you of your promise when you were here to send me also your own works over all these years; only one book published in recent years is found in my library. Thank you in advance.
On this occasion I also express my hope and wishes that all is well with your household—including the head of the family, meaning yourself—and true peace in the well-known manner: both materially and spiritually together; and on a deeper level—both in body and soul together; and at an even deeper point—peace between the two souls that every Jew possesses (in the words of our master the Alter Rebbe), namely, the G‑dly soul and animal soul—as is obvious and simple—in such a way that form dominates matter and spirit over physicality.
With honor and blessing and with wishes for a joyous Purim.
I will allow myself to make a suggestion—even though it comes after signing—which is both essential and heartfelt: since the committee has taken upon itself to publish the writings of the late author, surely it will also ensure that everything connected with elevating his soul will be arranged—guarding his resting place, studying Mishnayot, giving charity, etc. Surely for someone like yourself there is no need for lengthy explanation about this.
Also see in your introduction—immediately in its first chapter—that after understanding, comprehending, and delving into mathematical wisdom (which is foundational for other sciences), one says: now begins "the unknown known only to Him Who knows all unknowns." The intent here is clear and simple—and unambiguous—in the style of our great teacher (also teacher to seekers in all generations): "The foundation of foundations and pillar of wisdoms is to know that there exists a Primary Being...and His truth is unlike any other being...for human intellect cannot grasp His truth—He is hidden from every hidden thing."
