ההשתתפות באסיפת הרבנים באירופה וכו', ימים אלו בקרני הרב הראשי למדינת בריטני' הרב ד"ר יעקבוביץ שי', וכמובן שנסבה השיחה גם על נושא האמור. והסברתי גם לו עמדתי, והיא: שאף שנחוצה אסיפת רבנים של מחוז או מדינה או כמה מדינות קרובות בקונטיננט כאירופה, שיש לקוות לתועלת באם תהי' מאורגנת על ידי המתאימים לזה ובאופן המתאים, הנה באם ישתתפו באסיפה כזו גם באי-כח מדינות אחרות וקונטיננטים אחרים הרי מעולם חששו גדולי ישראל לענין כזה, ובחשש גדול ביותר. ויש אומרים אשר ענין זה עתה כבר יצא מגדר חשש – לאחר

I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 26th of MarCheshvan (and its predecessors), and I thank you for the good news it contained. May it be G‑d's will that you continue to share good tidings in the future as well. We are commanded to always ascend in matters of holiness regarding Torah and mitzvos, including sharing good news and bringing satisfaction to a fellow Jew—especially since 'VeAhavta L'Reiacha Kamocha' ('Love your fellow as yourself') is a great principle in the Torah.
You mentioned in your previous letter about refraining from participating in the Rabbinic Assembly in Europe, etc. In recent days I met with the Chief Rabbi of Britain, Rabbi Dr. Jakobovitz, and naturally our conversation also touched on this topic. I explained to him my position: Even though a rabbinic assembly for a region or country—or several nearby countries on a continent like Europe—is necessary and can be beneficial if organized by suitable people and in an appropriate manner, if representatives from other countries or continents participate as well, our great sages have always been extremely wary of such matters—and with very great concern.
Some say that this issue has now moved beyond mere concern—after last year's synagogue conference held in Jerusalem and the strange and dangerous ideas that followed (regarding reforms, conventions, etc.) since most rabbis of Israel participated and so on. And what is explained—that so-and-so participated only as an observer and another came as a guest speaker—is merely an illusion, as was clearly seen at the aforementioned conference in Jerusalem.
Certainly for your honor there is no need for lengthy discussion—especially since with such matters it is not worthwhile to elaborate or publicize; on the contrary, the less said the better.
