בנועם קבלתי בשורה הטובה על דבר הנחת אבן הפינה של שיכון חב"ד בלוד, ביום ד' כ' מנחם אב הבע"ל. ויהי רצון שתהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת.
ידוע גודל ענין בנין בית בארץ ישראל, ארץ אשר עיני ה"א בה מראשית שנה ועד אחרית שנה. ובפרט הקמת שיכון שיהיו בו בתים הראויים שיאמרו עליהם "בית גדול", כפירושי חכמינו ז"ל בזה, בית שמגדלים בו תורה, בית שמגדלים בו תפלה, בתי כנסיות ובתי מדרשות, מקדש מעט, שיהיו נשמעים בהם קול תפלה וקול תורה (תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות), ושיאירו מאורם ומגדלותם לכל בתי השיכון ובכל בתי השיכון, שבכל אחד מהם יהי' נשמע קול הרינה וקול התפלה.
ויהי רצון שמתאים לימים אלו שלאחרי ימי החורבן, ימי הנחמה המתחילים בחודש מחנם אב, ינחמנו אבינו שבשמים, מנחם ציון ובונה ירושלים, נחמה בכפלים, ונזכה בקרוב לבנין בית ה' זה בית המקדש על ידי משיח בן דוד,
ומגלגלין זכות ליומין זכאין, שלא היו ימים טובים לישראל כחמשה עשר באב וכו', ויום העשרים בו, זמן העצים וקרבנם בבית מקדשנו על ידי בני ישי אבי דוד.
בכבוד ובברכה אשר כשם שהתחילו בהנחת אבן הפינה כן יברכו בקרוב על המוגמר, בנין שלם ושיכון שלם, בו תרבה החכמה הבינה והדעת, עדי שיקויים הידוע כי מלאה הארץ דעה את הוי'

To the esteemed participants in the cornerstone laying of Chabad Housing in Lod, in our holy land—may it be rebuilt and established speedily by our righteous Moshiach—may Hashem be upon you for life. Shalom u'Vrachah!
It was with pleasure that I received the good news about the cornerstone laying for Chabad Housing in Lod, on Wednesday, the upcoming twentieth of Menachem Av. May it be at an auspicious and successful time.
It is well known how great is the matter of building a home in Eretz Yisrael, a land upon which "the eyes of Hashem your G‑d are always upon it from the beginning of the year to its end." Especially significant is establishing housing where there will be homes worthy to be called "a great house," as our Sages interpret: a house where Torah is cultivated, a house where prayer is cultivated—synagogues and study halls—a small sanctuary where voices of prayer and Torah (both revealed Torah and Chassidus) are heard. May their light and elevation shine to all the homes in the housing complex so that in each one will be heard voices of song and prayer.
May it be G‑d's will that fitting these days after those of destruction—the days of comfort beginning with Menachem Av—our Father in Heaven, Comforter of Zion and Builder of Jerusalem, will comfort us doubly. May we soon merit the building of G‑d's House—the Beis HaMikdash—through Moshiach ben David. Merit is brought about through meritorious days; there were no greater festivals for Israel than the fifteenth of Av etc., and its twentieth day—the time for bringing wood offerings and their sacrifices in our Holy Temple by descendants of Yishai father of David.
With honor and blessing: Just as you began with laying the cornerstone, so may you soon bless completion—a complete building and complete housing—in which wisdom, understanding, and knowledge will increase until what is known will be fulfilled: "For the earth shall be filled with knowledge of Hashem."

The Rebbe teaches that building Jewish homes in Eretz Yisrael carries profound spiritual meaning when they become centers for Torah learning and prayer. Such homes illuminate their surroundings with holiness and bring closer the ultimate redemption.
