Mrs. Rachel, may she live.
Shalom u'Vrachah!
After a pause, your letter from Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh, 24th of Teves, was received with main points about the activities during the time since you last wrote. It is understood that I was especially pleased to read about the success of the kindergarten, and my strong hope is that efforts are also being made regarding increasing the number of boys and girls enrolled. Surely in the neighborhood of the kindergarten there are new residents among the recent immigrants and similar.
You conclude your letter with mention of the class before women from Sephardic backgrounds, which is a very great matter indeed. This is because there is a particular issue regarding these women: before coming to Eretz HaKodesh (the Holy Land), their way of life was based on fulfilling the instructions of their father and then their husband without any hesitation or consideration about possibly not listening. Suddenly, they are transplanted into an environment where not listening becomes possible, and they must become independent—not only regarding their physical father or husband but also otherwise. Therefore, it is urgent to establish them in truth: that even in their current place, Torah and mitzvah remain in full force; moreover, they are now in a land watched by Hashem from the beginning to the end of the year and are in the palace of a king. Therefore, this independence should be expressed by increasing Jewish values and ideals—even influencing their husbands and children so that the entire household follows this direction.
It is understood that the language should be adjusted according to each group's level of understanding and knowledge among these women. However, it seems that this content is necessary for all groups—from the most devout onward—and fortunate is anyone who acts accordingly; we have been assured that one who comes to purify is assisted.
Blessings for good news as mentioned above and also in your personal matters.
Summary
The Rebbe highlights both sensitivity and determination when teaching Torah to immigrant women: lessons should be tailored to each group's background while always emphasizing steadfast Jewish values. Those who help others grow in Yiddishkeit are assured Divine assistance.
