Shalom u'Vrachah!
I received your letter in due time along with the pidyon nefesh that was read at the gravesite of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. My response was delayed until I could at least briefly review the material you sent with your letter.
Regarding the participation of our institutions' PTA organizations, I hope that this matter will progress, and it is possible that for various reasons, participation will come directly from each institution individually.
I was pleased to read in your letter that there have already been good and tangible results in accordance with our conversation, and certainly there will be further improvements in every area of your sacred work in education al taharas hakodesh. Please do not withhold any good news; thank you in advance.
As we stand on Erev Shabbos Rosh Chodesh Shevat, I cannot restrain myself from mentioning the yahrzeit of my father-in-law, the Rebbe—of blessed memory—on the tenth of Shevat. Anyone familiar with our people's history in Russia, especially those who emigrated from there, finds this day evokes memories and deep emotions from the period of struggle for Torah and mitzvos and sacred institutions under his leadership. He literally risked his life daily to preserve our people's values and way of life with true mesirus nefesh.
Certainly you are aware of this illustrious chapter at least in broad strokes. One of the most important points in his struggle and activities during that period—and throughout his life—was in the field of chinuch al taharas hakodesh. Its fruits and fruits of its fruits are still evident there even fifty years later.
It is understood that every remembrance in a Jew's life should bring an increase in action within his own sphere; in our case, an increase in deeds aligned with the worldview and aspirations of the one whose yahrzeit it is.
With honor and blessing and regards to Rabbi Dov Ber Levi.
Summary
The Rebbe highlights how remembering Yud Shevat should inspire renewed dedication to chinuch al taharas hakodesh (pure Torah education), following the example set by the Previous Rebbe’s self-sacrifice for Jewish continuity under adversity.
