לקראת חג השבועות, זמן מתן תורתנו הבא עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני שולח לכ' ברכתי לחג שמח, ובלשון הרב הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נבג"מ זי"ע:
לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות.

מענינא דיומא, ובפרט בידעי כי כ' אוהב צחות ומליצה ולשון נופל על לשון, הנה בהכנס כמה וכמה מאחינו בני ישראל לקלחת הבחירות, ומתאים לתורת הבעש"ט שמכל ענין שאיש מישראל רואה או שומע - עליו ללמוד מוסר השכל בעבודתו לקונו - יהי רצון שילמדו מכל שכן וקל וחומר מהבחירות: ומה בוחר שאינו אלא בשר ודם, אף על פי כן משתדל הנבחר (בכח) בלב ונפש למצוא חן בעיניו, וכל טרחה והתאמצות והן בגשם והן ברוח לא תקשה לו, ועד שלא יערב לו כל מאכל ושנתו תידד מעיניו ובלבד שיהי' נבחר בפועל, על אחת כמה וכמה בהנוגע להבוחר בעמו ישראל (- ובפרט שהוא) באהבה, כמו שהי' בשעת מתן תורה, אינו דין שיתנהג באופן האמור וכהנה וכהנה - למצוא חן בעיני הבוחר ולהיות נבחר באמת, ועוד זאת, שבנוגע לבוחר בשר ודם הרי על הנבחר לגמול לבוחר [כמובן אם מקיימים ההבטחות שבשעת הבחירות אף בני ישראל בחזקת כשרים שפיהם ולבם שווה]; משא"כ בהנוגע להבוחר בעמו ישראל באהבה - שהוא הנותן והנבחר הוא המקבל, ומה שצריך הנבחר לתת לבוחר - לימוד התורה וקיום מצותי' - הרי גם זה לטובת הנבחר.

As we approach the festival of Shavuos, the time of the giving of our Torah that is coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I send you my blessing for a joyous holiday. In the words of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe: to receive the Torah with joy and inwardness.

P.S. On a timely note—and especially since I know you appreciate wit and wordplay—when so many of our fellow Jews enter the cauldron of elections, and in line with the Baal Shem Tov's teaching that from everything a Jew sees or hears he should learn a lesson in his service to his Creator: may it be His will that we learn all the more so from elections. If even a candidate chosen by mere flesh and blood strives with heart and soul to find favor in his voter's eyes—making every effort both materially and spiritually so as to be actually elected—even losing appetite or sleep until he is chosen; how much more so regarding the One Who chooses His people Israel (especially as He does so) with love, as at the time of Matan Torah! Is it not fitting that one should act accordingly—to find favor in the Chooser's eyes and truly be chosen? Furthermore: regarding a human voter, the elected must repay his voter [assuming promises made during elections are kept—and Jews are presumed trustworthy]. But when it comes to He Who chooses His people Israel with love—He is the giver and we are only receivers; even what we must give Him—Torah study and mitzvah observance—is ultimately for our own benefit.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that just as candidates strive to win human favor during elections, we should strive even more to find favor with G‑d through Torah study and mitzvos—since all our efforts ultimately benefit us as recipients of His love.
