Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from Monday, in which you write main points about what you have experienced and your current situation and status.

I was especially pleased to read in your letter that you are not at all satisfied with your achievements thus far in Judaism, Torah, and mitzvos; rather, you hope to ascend and add in holiness. For a good will in such matters certainly strives to bring it into actual deeds, and our Sages have taught us that when this comes through effort (called yegiah), then the assurance is "yagata u'matzata" (if you toil, you will find). May it be G‑d's will that you do as stated and succeed even more than you imagine. It is certainly unnecessary to emphasize that one of the main mitzvos is "Ve'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha" (love your fellow as yourself), which is a great principle in the Torah. My intention is that you should strive to influence your friends and environment in general so that they too stand and act according to the above—to ascend in holiness. Regarding all of the above for you and them applies the saying of the wise: "There is nothing that stands before the will."

Regarding your writing that you study only a little Chassidus—it is surprising! For we see tangibly that chassidic warmth and vitality add perseverance and diligence also in studying nigleh (the revealed part of Torah) and enhance observance of mitzvos. And as mentioned above: there is nothing that stands before the will—especially since surely from time to time you meet those who learn or have learned this part of Torah, and you can discuss with them any difficulty or new matter regarding this.

Regarding your writing about a young woman who appears modest to you, and it has come to your mind about marrying her—and you ask how to proceed, and how to request from her concerning proper ways for Jewish daughters. Regarding conduct—which apparently refers to shidduchim—do as is customary among Jews and yeshivah students in Eretz HaKodesh who are careful about G‑d's word and properly observe mitzvos: it seems in such cases this is done through an intermediary rather than directly. Even with sound reasoning this makes sense since this way both parties can express their wishes without compromising anyone's dignity etc., which is clear.

Regarding proper ways etc.—here too it should be done via an intermediary who surely speaks pleasantly; but here there is also room for more explanation during their meeting—though obviously not immediately at their first meeting.

As for your concern that perhaps because of your request they will consider you extreme—in fact, recently a spirit of purity and awe has been awakened among youth in Eretz HaKodesh to return to ancestral customs; this is Torah.

If you write also your mother's name (as it is customary to mention during prayer), he will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my father-in-law the Rebbe zatzal according to the content of your letter. May it be G‑d's will that you report good news on all these matters.

Blessings for a joyous Chanukah.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches us never to be complacent but always strive higher spiritually while helping others do so as well. He stresses Ahavas Yisrael as central and gives practical advice for shidduchim: use intermediaries respectfully, trust sincere intentions, and remember nothing stands before true will.
