Shalom u'Vrachah!

I acknowledge receipt of your letter, and as you requested, I will once again mention you at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzukal l'havdil ben chayim mezal ziya, in accordance with the content of your request.

And despite the style and content of your letter—and even more so since this situation repeats itself in almost every letter from you—I have not, G‑d forbid, lost my hope that in the end you will not only see the good in life (including true life), but that this vision will also be felt in your heart. Especially according to the teachings of Chassidus: in our world everything is a mixture of good and bad, and it is up to a person to choose what to emphasize, what to contemplate, and what to take an interest in. For in every person's life there are two paths: to see the good surrounding them or otherwise. And if this is true for everyone, how much more so for Jewish men and women who believe with absolute faith in the eternity of the soul—that is, spiritual eternity—which means the ultimate victory of good. For it is impossible for something fleeting and passing not to be ultimately overcome by what is enduring and eternal; there is no comparison between them.

Our Sages teach us that Adam HaRishon—even before his expulsion while still in Gan Eden—complained about his circumstances and was called ungrateful. And among Jewish men and women who were in the ghettos under Nazi rule during the most terrible times (may G‑d have mercy), they recited morning blessings—expressions of thanks and praise to the Creator and Ruler of the world. Ultimately, each person stands between these two extremes.

It is clear and simple that none of this implies justifying judgment on anyone—especially so—but rather it emphasizes reality as it truly is. The point is: whether a person's life is full of satisfaction and meaning or follows an opposite path depends greatly on their own willpower—their ability to direct their intellect's gaze either to the right or to the left.

Since we are now in Kislev—the month of success for family members—may it be G‑d's will that this change begin immediately.

With regards and blessings.
