Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letters from the 22nd and 29th of Marcheshvan and the 1st of Kislev...
b) Another point I must raise is that since the work of teachers—and certainly of principals—cannot be based solely on accepting the yoke (kabbalat ol), as explained in many places in Chassidic teachings, and it is clearly seen that success is only possible when it is done with joy, gladness of heart, and a sense of pleasure, it is necessary that the administration’s relationship with each individual be conducted pleasantly and certainly peacefully—even if the administration believes it is one hundred percent right and others are one hundred percent at fault, let alone if there is any doubt. What led me to write this is that I receive letters of complaint from several schools in the network; though their claims differ, what they mostly share is a lack of feeling that their concerns are being shared or that there is a desire to help them—whether from the administration or from the principal (in teachers’ letters) or from the teachers (in principals’ letters). Of course, not all complaints are equally strong or frequent. Surely with reflection one can find a way for immediate improvement in this matter. The reward for one who overlooks his own measures is the drawing down of the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy as our Sages ruled—without limitation. This should suffice.
c) Apparently one reason for these complaints is occasional salary delays. I am interested to know if a fund has been established to lend teachers against their upcoming salary—that is, a loan for several days or at most a week or two. Would this be helpful? And can it be assured (bevarernen) that repayment will be made without any delay—that is, guaranteed by the check received from the offices? This should suffice...
And since we are now in the month of Kislev—the month of miracles and redemption—which includes Yud Kislev and Yud-Tes Kislev and concludes with Chanukah when we follow Beit Hillel’s ruling to increase light each day—may you have good news in all matters concerning spreading Judaism and disseminating its wellsprings in visible goodness as you continue to increase light.
With blessings for good news.
P.S. The letters from 5th and 8th Kislev have been received. Also received were reports from 23rd and 26th Tishrei; 10th and 21st Marcheshvan; and 1st Rosh Chodesh Kislev.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that successful educational leadership requires warmth, empathy, and peaceful relations—even amid disagreements—and suggests practical steps such as short-term loans to address salary delays for teachers.
