Shalom u'Vrachah!
After the longest break, your letter from the 13th of Elul was received with the attached pan, which will be read at an auspicious time at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal.
In it you write, confirming what you have experienced in recent months and your decision—which you have already implemented—to join Tomchei Temimim in [location]. It is clear that this is very good and proper, and my opinion on this has long been known and firm: Every single Jew must prepare himself (before) entering worldly matters by dedicating his time solely to studying our holy Torah, the Torah of Life—sacred studies without mixing in other matters, not even business affairs. This applies to those involved in business and similar pursuits; but for those who wish to be 'dwellers of the tent,' their entire lives are devoted to this purpose, as Rambam brings at the end of Hilchos Shemitah v'Yovel.
This preparation is like a foundation for their entire future life; the stability of any building depends first and foremost on the strength of its foundation. Just as there is no benefit in improving walls or furniture if one cannot be sure that the foundation is strong enough, so too, dedicating years solely to Torah study now is not only for the World to Come but is also the proper preparation for life in this world. This is clear.
May it be G‑d's will that you fulfill this decision with joy and gladness of heart and succeed in your studies and mitzvah observance during this period; this will also add to your success throughout your entire life.
From all the above it is also understood that preparing for only a few months is not sufficient at all. If it is not possible to dedicate several consecutive years, arrangements should be made so that at least a full year meets these standards—and whoever adds more will be granted more from Above.
Regarding what you wrote about money for tzedakah and your desire to give anonymously: it would be proper to give it to the Tomchei Temimim fund in [location], which can accept donations without revealing who gave them.
Blessings for good news and success in all of the above, and for a good inscription and sealing [in the Book of Life].
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that exclusive dedication to Torah study before entering worldly affairs forms a strong foundation for lifelong spiritual and material success. Even brief preparation is insufficient; one should strive for extended periods devoted solely to learning.
