בנועם קבלתי הפתקא שלו, ובעיקר מה שכותב שהוא בן חסיד חבדי. והרי גם בענינים גשמיים אין דבר הולך לאיבוד, על אחת כמה וכמה בענינים רוחניים, ובפרט בהנוגע מאב לבן, שענין ירושת אבות הוא עובדא שהכל מודים בה ורואים במוחש, ואצל חסידים לא כל שכן, שיסוד החסידות הוא אהבת ישראל לכל אחד ואחד מבני ישראל, ואין צריך לומר אהבת חסיד חבדי לבנו שרוצה בכל לבו להנחילו ירושת דורות וכל אוצר תכונות הנפש הטובות. הרי מובן שהכל נשתמר יפה בכח על כל פנים, אלא שצריך להוציא מן הכח אל הפועל, שבעולמנו עולם המעשה מעשה עיקר, היינו הנהגה בחיי יום יום חדורה אור חסידותי, במצוות מעשיות שבין אדם למקום ובין אדם לחברו, שבאמת הא בהא תליא.
וכיון שמשרתו בטח קשורה במדה חשובה של השפעה על מהלך ענינים וגם על אישים, בודאי שיש לו אפשרויות גם לזכות את הרבים.
תקותי שיסלח לי על שבמכתבי הראשון לכ' הנני נוגע מיד בענינים אשר לכאורה הם רשות היחיד שלו ואיך זה הנני בא להתערב ועוד מעבר לים, אבל מה אעשה ותורת החסידות מדגישה ביחוד דין תורתנו תורת חיים, שכל ישראל ערבים זה בזה, ובהטעמה שעוד בה שלישי' ערבים מלשון ערבות, וערבים - מעורבים וערבים - מתוקים זה לזה.

I was pleased to receive your note, especially what you write about being the son of a Chabad chasid. Even in material matters nothing is ever truly lost; how much more so in spiritual matters—especially from father to son. The concept of inheritance from one's ancestors is a fact that everyone acknowledges and can see tangibly. Among chasidim this is even more so, since the foundation of chasidut is Ahavas Yisrael for every single Jew—and certainly the love of a Chabad chasid for his son, desiring with all his heart to pass on an inheritance of generations and all the treasures of good character traits.
It is understood that everything has been preserved beautifully at least in potential; it only needs to be brought from potential into actuality. In our world—the world of action—action is primary: daily conduct infused with chasidic light, practical mitzvos between man and G‑d and between man and his fellow (which are truly interdependent).
Since your position surely involves significant influence over events and people, you certainly have opportunities to bring merit to the many.
I hope you will forgive me that in my first letter to you I immediately touch upon matters that seemingly belong only to your private domain—and how do I presume to intervene from across the sea? But what can I do? The teachings of chasidut especially emphasize our Torah's law—Torat Chaim—that all Jews are responsible for one another. This is further highlighted by the fact that "areivim" (responsible) also means "mixed together," and "areivim"—sweet to one another.
