במש"כ בשו"ע רבנו הזקן הל' אונאה סכ"ח-כ"ט דמשמע שם לכאורה דדיבורים הגורמים צער אין זה לה"ר, והוא דלא כרמב"ם הל' דעות פ"ז ה"ה: המספר דברים שגורמים אם נשמעו כו'.
- ויש להוסיף שבמ"מ שם ציין לרמב"ם פרק הנ"ל -
ולדעתי - בשו"ע שם קאי בהל' אונאה. והל' לה"ר (וקללה) הובאו רק בדרך אגב.
(ובעיקר לומר שיש משום אונאה - אף במקום לה"ר וקללה - ולא לחדש דיש משום לה"ר, כדמוכח מהסגנון שם),
ולכן קיצר, בלה"ר ולא הביא אלא מה דפסיקא לי', ובשו"ע רבנו חאו"ח סקנ"ו ס"י ואילך - ששם מקום הל' אלו האריך וגם העתיק דברי הרמב"ם הנ"ל בלשונם ממש.

In response to your message regarding the engagement of your daughter Mrs. Bruriah, may she live, with her groom, may he live—may it be at a good and auspicious time. May it be G‑d’s will that it should be at a good and auspicious time and lead to an everlasting edifice founded upon Torah and mitzvah as they are illuminated by the light within Torah. May you and your wife, the Rebbetzin, may she live, derive much true nachas from them.

Regarding what is written in Shulchan Aruch of our master the Alter Rebbe, Hilchos Ona'ah sections 28–29: it appears there that speech causing pain is not considered lashon hara (evil speech), which is not like the Rambam in Hilchos Deos chapter 7 halacha 5: "One who relates matters that if heard would cause..."—and in the Maggid Mishneh there he references this very chapter in Rambam. In my opinion, in Shulchan Aruch there he is speaking about Hilchos Ona'ah. The laws of lashon hara (and cursing) are only mentioned incidentally (mainly to say that there is ona'ah even where there is also lashon hara or cursing—not to innovate that there is lashon hara as well, as is evident from his wording). Therefore he was brief regarding lashon hara and only brought what was clear to him; but in Shulchan Aruch HaRav Orach Chaim section 156:10 onward—where these laws belong—he elaborates and even quotes the above words of the Rambam verbatim. See there at the end of subsection 11: "But a matter that can be... does not have..."
