Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter, in which you write that you have become engaged and that the conditions will be finalized after Shavuot, with the wedding set for the year 5720. Your letter does not make clear what is meant by 'engagement,' what the conditions are, or why there is a need to delay the wedding for such a period. Surely you already know my opinion on this matter from long ago.
It seems your intention regarding 'engagement' is what is commonly called a 'vort,' and by 'conditions' you mean writing a contract. Perhaps this is indeed the custom in Jerusalem, the holy city—when you come to a city, follow its customs.
In any case, may it be G‑d's will that everything should be at an auspicious and successful time and that you build a Chassidic home.
I was pleased to read in your letter that you were involved in school registration and that it went well. Surely your other friends are also energetically involved in this work, and may Hashem grant them success as well—to increase Torah and glorify it through the development of the school. Certainly this is the channel and vessel for success in their personal matters.
At an auspicious time I will mention at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—may his merit protect us—for all that is needed for you and for your mother—may she live long.
Summary
The Rebbe emphasizes following local customs regarding engagements, encourages timely weddings, blesses building a Chassidic home, values communal educational efforts as channels for personal success, and offers prayers for both the recipient and his mother.
