Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 15th of Teves, in which you raise a question regarding the words of the Rashbam on the verse Dan Yadin, where he comments that the one who explains it about Shimshon did not understand its simple meaning in depth, etc., and yet in several Midrashim of Chazal it is explained in that manner.
The Rashbam's precision is that those explanations are from the category of drush in Torah and not from pshat, and this connection of the Rashbam is clarified further—in his commentary at the beginning of Parshas Vayeshev; see there.
With blessings for good news, on behalf of the Rebbe shlita,
Secretary Zev: Weber, Jerusalem.
Summary
This letter clarifies that while Midrashic interpretations exist regarding Dan Yadin and Shimshon, the Rashbam distinguishes between pshat (simple meaning) and drush (homiletic interpretation), emphasizing that his commentary focuses on pshat as seen also in Parshas Vayeshev.
