במענה למכתבו,
נעם לי לקרות בו אשר הכיר חסידי חב"ד, ובטח נוסף על מה ששמע מאתם סיפורים נפלאים ומנגינות שונות, חקר גם אודות תורת החסידות והדרכותי', שהרי זה כל האדם להתנהג באורח חיים מתאים להוראת תורתנו הק' תורת חיים, הוראות חדורות מדות חסידותיות. ואין הדבר אלא ברצון, שהרי הבטיחו חז"ל יגעת ולא מצאת אל תאמין.
בשאלתו אודות חסידי חב"ד וכו' הרי כמה ספרים וגם חוברות נדפסות ישנם בענין זה, ויוכל להוודע אודותם אצל החסידים עמהם נפגש.
תקותי שהקישור מכתבים אתי יביא להוספה בהתמדה ושקידה בלימוד התורה והידור בקיום המצות, והשי"ת יצליחו.

The Rebbe responds to the individual’s letter and writes that it gave him great pleasure to read that he has become acquainted with Chabad Chassidim.
The Rebbe notes that aside from hearing inspiring stories and enjoying Chassidic melodies, it is certainly expected that he has also begun to investigate and study the teachings of Chassidus and its practical guidance. The Rebbe emphasizes that while stories and songs can inspire and uplift a person, the main purpose is to understand the teachings and apply them in one’s life.
The Rebbe explains that the purpose of a person’s life is to conduct oneself in accordance with the directives of our holy Torah, which is a Torah of life. This means living a life guided not only by halacha but also imbued with refined Chassidic character traits—middos chassidiyos—which shape a person’s behavior and conduct in a deeper and more meaningful way.
The Rebbe reiterates that everything depends on one’s will and effort. As our sages have taught: “If one says, ‘I have exerted effort but did not find success,’ do not believe him.” This means that success is guaranteed when there is true effort. If a person does not succeed, it is an indication that the effort was not yet sufficient, and one must continue to strive.
Regarding the individual’s questions about Chassidus Chabad, the Rebbe writes that there are many sefarim and booklets that address these topics. He suggests that the individual should consult the Chassidim with whom he is in contact, who can guide him toward the appropriate books and materials for study.
The Rebbe expresses his hope that this correspondence will lead to an increase in the individual’s diligence and devotion in Torah study and in the observance of mitzvos in a complete and refined manner. He concludes with a blessing for success.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that inspiration from Chassidic stories must lead to study and practical application. Through effort, learning, and living with Chassidic values, one fulfills the true purpose of serving Hashem.
הרבי משיב למכתבו של הכותב וכותב כי היה לו נחת רוח גדולה לקרוא שנעשה לו קשר עם חסידי חב״ד.
הרבי מציין שמעבר לשמיעת סיפורים חסידיים והנאה מניגונים, בוודאי גם התחיל לעיין וללמוד את תורת החסידות ואת הדרכותיה המעשיות. הרבי מדגיש שסיפורים וניגונים מעוררים את הלב, אך העיקר הוא להבין את התוכן וליישם אותו בחיי היום־יום.
הרבי מסביר שתכלית האדם היא לנהל את חייו על פי הוראות התורה הקדושה, שהיא תורת חיים. הכוונה היא לחיות לא רק על פי ההלכה, אלא גם מתוך מידות חסידיות מעודנות שמחדירות עומק ומשמעות בהתנהגות האדם.
הרבי מדגיש שהכול תלוי ברצון ובמאמץ. חז״ל אמרו: ״יגעת ולא מצאת אל תאמין״ — כלומר, כאשר יש מאמץ אמיתי, מובטחת הצלחה. ואם אין הצלחה, יש להוסיף ולהתחזק במאמץ.
בנוגע לשאלותיו על חסידות חב״ד, הרבי מציין שיש ספרים וחוברות רבות העוסקות בכך, ומציע לפנות לחסידים עמם הוא בקשר כדי לקבל הדרכה לגבי ספרים מתאימים ללימוד.
הרבי מביע תקווה שהתכתבות זו תביא להוספה בשקידה ובהתמדה בלימוד התורה ובקיום המצוות בשלמות ובדקדוק, ומסיים בברכה להצלחה.
