Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from 23 Tammuz, in which you write that you are serving in the army and are careful to observe Torah and mitzvos, etc. Certainly your eye is also good regarding others and you influence your friends in this direction as well.
For one who is in the army in particular must do everything within his power to strengthen all matters of the army, and soldiers are included in this. Obviously, one who acts otherwise is a traitor. All of these things apply even more so regarding observance of Torah and mitzvos within the framework of the army, since our Torah is a Torah of life and about its mitzvos it is said "v'chai bahem" (and you shall live by them). Increasing all this adds extra life, strength, and might to the army, while any deficiency G‑d forbid in Torah and its mitzvos brings weakness and slackness and harms the security of the platoon one is in—and through this, affects the entire army.
However, because of the doubled and redoubled darkness of exile there are those who err in this matter since results are not immediately visible on the spot. And it is a kal vachomer (all the more so), for at all times and places every Jew is commanded regarding Torah and mitzvah—how much more so soldiers who were especially commanded: "And your camp shall be holy."
At the same time it is also understood that even though one finds oneself in the army under special conditions—as you write—that there is no assistance (and perhaps even more than just lack of assistance) for observing Torah and mitzvos; nevertheless, since He Who gave the Torah and mitzvah commanded special holiness in an army camp, He certainly gives each person the ability to fulfill this—for "the Holy One Blessed be He does not come with unreasonable demands upon His creations."
Blessings for good news in all of the above and regards to your friends.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that upholding holiness through Torah observance within military service strengthens both individuals and their units. Even when support is lacking, G‑d empowers every Jew to maintain sanctity wherever they serve.
