במענה על מכתבו מכ"ט אייר, שזה עתה נתקבל, בו כותב אודות אברך ראש ישיבה העומד עתה על פרשת דרכים, כיון ששתי אפשרויות בידו, והן:
א) להמשיך בעבודתו בקדש עד עתה כראש ישיבה, אלא שזה לוקח רוב זמנו, ואין די זמן פנוי לשגשג בלימודו הוא, בה בשעה שיש מנבאים לו עתידות מזהירות בהבנת התורה ולימודה.
ב) לעזוב משרתו כראש ישיבה ולהכנס לכולל ולישב על התורה בלימודו לעצמו, אלא שאז תרד רמת הישיבה בכלל, והישיבה... אשר יחידה היא במינה באה"ק ת"ו תתפרק, כיון שהוא עמוד התוך שלה.
ומובן אשר עליו להמשיך בעבודתו בקדש בהישיבה בה משמש בקדש כראש ישיבה, ולהוסיף אומץ בזה, וזכות הרבים הם התלמידים שלומד עמהם מסייעתו גם בהמצטרך לו לעצמו ולשגשג בתורה וכידוע פתגם רבנו הזקן - בעל התניא והשו"ע - בספרו תורה אור בתחלתו, אשר על ידי מעשה הצדקה נעשים מוחו ולבו זכים אלף [פעמים] ככה והרי עבודתו האמורה צדקה ברוחניות הוא, וק"ל.
ואנצל הזדמנות זו, לעוררו על שמירת שלשת השיעורים השווים לכל נפש, מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, והם:
א) אמירת שיעור תהלים חדשי - כפי שנחלק התהלים לימי החדש - בכל יום אחר תפלת שחרית. ב) לימוד פרשה חומש עם פירוש רש"י מהסדרה של השבוע (ביום א' מהתחלת הסדרה עד פרשת שני, ביום שני מפרשת שני עד שלישי וכו'). ג) לימוד שיעור תניא בכל יום - כפי שנחלק התניא לימות השנה. אשר סגולה הם לכו"כ ענינים.

In response to your letter from the 29th of Iyar, which has just been received, in which you write about a young scholar who serves as a Rosh Yeshiva and now stands at a crossroads, since he has two options: (a) to continue his sacred work as Rosh Yeshiva as until now, though this takes up most of his time and leaves insufficient free time for his own Torah advancement—even though he is predicted to have a brilliant future in Torah understanding and study; (b) to leave his position as Rosh Yeshiva and enter a kollel to devote himself entirely to his own Torah study—though in that case the overall standard of the yeshiva would decline, and the yeshiva, which is unique in its kind in Eretz HaKodesh may disband since he is its central pillar.
It is clear that he should continue his sacred work at the yeshiva where he serves as Rosh Yeshiva and strengthen himself further in this. The merit of the many—the students with whom he learns—will also assist him with what he needs personally and with flourishing in Torah. As is known from the saying of our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe—the author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch—in his book Torah Or at its beginning: through acts of tzedakah one’s mind and heart become purified a thousandfold; and this sacred work is spiritual tzedakah. This is clear.
I take this opportunity to remind you about maintaining the three daily study sessions instituted by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal: (a) reciting the daily portion of Tehillim as divided for each day of the month after Shacharit; (b) studying Chumash with Rashi’s commentary from that week’s parsha (on Sunday from the beginning until Sheini, Monday from Sheini until Shlishi, etc.); (c) learning a daily portion of Tanya as divided for each day of the year. These are segulos for many matters.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that communal responsibility can elevate personal growth. By serving others through leadership roles like Rosh Yeshiva, one merits both helping many and receiving spiritual assistance for personal advancement. Daily structured learning brings further blessing.
